All depends on how he and his agent see himself.
40 goal scorer from two years ago?
Or 20 something goal scorer that misses 20 games a season.

Are you talking about Brock?
He has missed 18 games in total the last 5 years. I think some of that came when his dad passed away.

I'm good with us talking with Marner and Boeser in the off-season. Could use Boeser's shot here. Or Marners skill.
Will take a pass on Ehlers.

That 40 goal season looks like an outlier for him, but he is a consistent player in the 20 goal mark.
How much are you willing to pay another winger, who is likely to take PP time away from Coronato.

I'm not a believer in building your core through free agency. Marner or Boeser are excellent adds, but those would instantly be your best players with not a ton of high end around them.
Hopefully the cap room isn't burning a hole in Connie's pocket, and they can forego the temptation to significantly add in free agency until we have another couple of promising prospects in the cupboard (preferably at Center).

I really really want to see McDavid hit the free agent market for two reasons.
One obviously because I hate the Oilers, so I don't want to see him on that team anymore.
But two, from a pure curiosity standpoint, I want to see if 32 teams scramble to offer him max term at max dollars. Cap structure aside, even if you were a cap crunched team, if McDavid expressed interest in your team, I would think any GM would get him locked up first, and then deal with how to get cap compliant afterwards.

I know it’s a new management group but if I remember correctly the flames were likely going to take Boeser if they didnt trade their first for Hamilton.

Looked at his hockeydb and there are only 4 of 8 seasons over 70 games. This year should be the 5th.
Didn't he have on and off again back issues a few years ago?

Just looked at his injury history and back is listed once.
He missed game 7 because of blood clotting.

Scoring Winger

Boeser to me is similar to Sharangovich. Both have an excellent shot, and when they are scoring, they are good and score in bunches. Both aren't great skaters. If they aren't scoring, you don't notice them much in games. Rumored offer from Van was 5 years at $8M and Boeser camp rejected it.

I'll give you he's been more durable than I remembered lately.
But he's missed 72 Canucks game since he broke in (ignoring his after college season), which is an average of 9 per season.
Healthy scratched?
I think the injury list is missing a few!

When another team will give you max term, there's no reason to accept 5 years. As wise as that would be for VAN.

Powerplay Quarterback

Please no to the Boeser and Bennett type signings.
We are not ready for those types of moves.
I'd make an exception for Marner (if there was a realistic chance..) because he's a genuinely elite player, the likes of which the flames get 1 per decade it feels like.
I think we might have two already in Wolf and Parehk, so if you could add a third that would be huge.
But Bennetts and Boesers will keep us mid right now.

He is not getting 7 years. 4-5 years most likely. But July 1st does bring the crazy in GM's but term seems to be going down lately.
As long as that place is not Calgary.

Marner, Wolf and Parekh would definitely be solid pillars to build around for the next 5 years.
Maybe they should continue developing Zary at center instead of a winger bounced between lines 2 and 4.. Then you could have your Cozens-equivalent in a couple years.

Ehlers doesn't help you at all in the playoffs.
Players with skating issues like Boeser tend to fall off a cliff when they cross the 30 yo threshold, I think.

Marner loves playing for the Leafs, but I think he extends only if the Leafs find some level of success in the playoffs. I can see him saying no thanks if the Leafs exit in round 1 as he'll likely believe he'll have a better shot somewhere else. Would love to have this guy on the Flames... one of the top wingers in the entire league and in my opinion, unreasonably made the scape goat by people for the Leafs problems in the playoffs (mostly because he is a Leaf and people can't think logically when it comes to them). I don't see him signing in Calgary though because he'll want to go to a team that is a cup contender.

I think Boeser ends up going home to Minnesota.

Agreed.
When you blow half your cap on four forwards and dumpster-dive for D and goalies, it's not the fault of those four forwards that your team is poorly constructed.
This is not the time in the Flames' re-whatever to be going after big UFAs. But when you get the chance to acquire a talent like Marner for nothing but money, you have to give it a shot no matter where you are in your competitive cycle. It would be negligent not to try. Of course, the same goes for 30 other teams, so the odds are very long against it.

My guess would be the following:
In 2025:
Marner signs with LA (7 x $13 million)
Bennett signs with Toronto (7 x $8 million)
In 2026:
McDavid signs with Toronto (7 x $16 million)
