If I had your same level of nonchalance about success, I probably would have been a sports writer or something.
I want the team to win. I want my kids to want to cheer for the team. This team won't win anything, and the way they're building will replicate what we have. I don't have any disdain for the club, just the conman and the people pulling his strings. Shame because I quite like conny the person, but conny the manager is either spineless or has the wrong idea. Probably doesn't help that he was never really part of a winning club in his career.

If I'm McDavid I would be livid that they decided to roll with Skinner and Pickard. What the hell are they thinking. As a Flames fan I love it though.

The not being part of a winning club is probably the problem. If we had a Kevin Lowe or a MacTavish we would be better off.

According to Puckpedia, the Oilers now have the highest cap hit in the league and are $1.14 million over with 24 players on the roster.
Adding any consequential goalie would have meant trading one of their better players as well.
That Nurse deal and $3 million in dead cap between Neal and Campbell could be the end of them.

Knowing in the pit of your stomach it's likely we get crushed, but that crazy things can also happen and there's always that chance.
The smell of spring in the air and hockey to look forward to. The beer flowing, jerseys on the streets and flags on the cars.
Even with just a fool's hope, that's still what it's all about.
Time is just moving faster these days and we don't get NEARLY enough of that playoff fever around the city any more (except that of our neighboring rivals, which is repulsive).
Speak for yourself but I can assure you it isn't just management who wants playoffs.

I think it is all a personality thing. Like how some people find lottery tickets to be fun and exciting, and others find them to be a boring waste of time.
Neither side really gets the other side, but they both exist in significant numbers, and no amount of arguing will get people to change camps.
I would bet there is probably a very similar breakdown comparing the percent of people who regularly play the lottery, and the percent of people who care about a long shot chance of a cup. You can see it in action especially with casual fans, as the cup chances go up it crosses the "likely enough for me to care" threshold for more people, resulting in more people engaged.

Two huge raises coming this summer, zero prospects to fill the holes, and Ekholm/RNH/Hyman all get a year older.
Love to see it.

Ill never be able to relate to those masochist fans.
Following a team closely while cheering for losses and being disgruntled with wins and meaningful hockey, putting the crapshoot and total non-guarantee that is the draft ahead of it is something i won't understand. What are you here for lol.
They want to be a Chicago sans Bedard for 5+ years to "rebuild properly" and don't want to see wins until we're magically loaded with talent as if the team can just flip a switch and be good then, when it just isn't that simple because it's not a linear process.
I'd call it a toxic level of delayed gratification, because nothing is guaranteed and teams that win also require luck and there's no formula for that, but these people seem to think there is.

Also, its an entertainment business, just enjoy the fact that we have a top 10 goalie again and a group that is playing hard for eachother.

We still need to bring in Tanguay, after the Savard experiment failed.
Don't we also have Stajan, and Stone as skills coaches with the team?

Meh - it is what it is. I was hoping for a sell-off but there isn't a lot to sell.
I just hope Andersson isn't re-signed.

Both sets of fans are cheering for the team to win. They are just looking at it differently.
Some fans see winning from a short term perspective, so to them cheering for the team to win means cheering for them to win each game.
Some fans see winning from a long term perspective, so to them cheering for the team to win means cheering for the most likely long term path to winning the cup, even if it involves losing in the short term.
Short term focused fans see long term focused fans cheering for long term success and accuse them of cheering against the team because they might want losses to help with long term team success.
Long term focused fans see short term focused fans cheering for wins now and accuse them of cheering against the team because they see cheering for short term wins as cheering against the teams long term success.
Both sides are talking past each other when they accuse the other of cheering against the team.

Kypreos sharing that the Leafs were in talks to trade Minten, Cowan, two 1sts for Rantanen and were okay with 13M per for Rantanen. Carolina was not keen though on potentially seeing the Leafs in the playoffs with Rantanen. Crazy.

I don't think Stankoven is that great, but even i would take him over Minten and Cowan.
Cowan is decent, but if Minten wasn't in Toronto, he'd be a nothing prospect. His is no better than Cole Schwindt.

My life is full of serious stuff that actually worries me.
Sports is fun for me.
When the team is trying to compete? Fun
When the team is re-building or re-whatevering? Fun!
When the team is making trades? Fun!
When the team is making a bet on its core? Fun!
I just don't understand the desire to constantly be dissatisfied with things. Chances are they aren't going to win a cup in the next 10 years, or maybe 20. So if you are basing your enjoyment on that being the only outcome that gives you joy - then man that's rough.
I'm here for the ride. Wherever it takes us.
