Im enjoying this season and understand there is a value to playoff experience but did the 2015 playoff run help the last core have future playoff success? I mean hopefully this time it helps but the last core never got past the second round even with early playoff exposure. If anything beating the Canucks that year made the organization accelerate the rebuild prematurely. I don’t really know how much value getting curb stomped in the playoffs has for young players.

You realize those two things aren't mutually exclusive though, right?

He was a was already traded once guy...because he was a UFA

He has done a great job in the context of that plan, and he has been rewarded with a team that is competing for a playoff spot. I don't see him deviating from that plan now or in the summer.
The concern that many of us have is that approach is more likely to keep us perpetually middle of the road then it is to turn us into a real contender.
|
I wouldn’t say the team is particularly competitive right now, 8/16 in the conference and 14/32 is just mediocre. I do agree with the bolded, just another year of spinning the tires which is why I don’t like Conroys inaction today.

I agree I am just relaying what the mindset of the organization is. They want to give this group a chance to get that taste, there is always the summer to make moves.

Who says they aren't? Andersson is probably the only player who they held on to that was an easy trade but they can still get good value in the offseason.

You asked for guys traded today who had term and got a haul, Rantanen is no longer a UFA and was traded for a haul. I’m not gonna respond to you after this, either you’re trolling or your stance isnt well thought out. Peace.

Sam Bennett disagrees
Getting stomped or not, gives the players a sense of what to expect in the postseason in future seasons.
You're insane if ypu think the players get nothing from making the playoffs for the first time

I get what you’re saying but every professional has played big games in junior throughout their careers leading up to this. Again, not disagreeing. I just think being in the fuzzy middle when we’re not a true contender isn’t great. I’m also not an owner investing money so I get that part and the selling of a playoff experience.

Flames didnt have a similar player lol
Who could the Flames have traded that the other team could instantly extend. You arent gonna respond because the idea is beyond ridiculous.
Rantanen was moved because he was a UFA the CANES couldnt extend and keep. Obviously

I honestly don't get why people are so upset. We're sitting in a wildcard spot. We still have several 1st over the next few years. We're likely not gonna be bad enough to fall into a top 10 pick. I don't blame Conny for not selling. I'd rather he do nothing that make a trade that's gonna hurt the team long term

Wait, who's upset?
Didn't really get that impression.
Mild disappointment maybe. But most of us know how overhyped the TDL is these days.

Never thought Conroy would be dancing for pending free agents unless it was a real shot at signing a Rantanen type.
I was hoping they could reel in one more trade that helped now and long term.
Don't mind the Oleksiak Idea as he has another year left.

Multiple people who are posting that the Flames are ever committed to mediocrity because they didn't trade Andersson. Markstrom TDL 2.0 lol
