I guess I can post here...

A friend of mine is the GM/Coach of the Foothills League One team and he reached out asking if I could spread the word about sponsorship. Could also be donation for silent auctions or raffles, etc...anything to help on the fundraising side.

Another area would be billeting. They've signed some good athletes, but need to place them. They would pay $600-700/month so there's nothing really out of pocket.

Let me know if you're interested and I can put you in touch. Could be for the girls or boys L1 teams.

I'm just so happy professional soccer is a) in Calgary, and b) flourishing and growing. There is real momentum with this team, and it's going beyond this city now - we're being recognized across North America. Been waiting my whole life for this for Calgary.

This is so much damn fun.

Was thinking of maybe doing something crazy... so I checked out tickets for the away leg.

They are selling em for $427 CAD each on the south stand... that can't be right, can it?

EDIT: Even though it has dollar signs, the prices are in pesos. Cavalry website has a disclaimer. So about $30. Plane tickets are different story. Nothing under a grand.

5 SOG for Pumas, with only 2 on target. But yes, men against boys. They couldn't penetrate. Cavs did a great job keeping them to the outside, or having possession with Pumas back line. They just "dropped in".

Remember when people wanted Tommy canned? Pepperidge farm remembers!
Great win for sure, but we all know that when they play their senior team in the return leg, it won't be close.

Define "won't be close". What's your prediction?

You were so wrong last night, surely you can't possibly be wrong again next week, could you?

Yes, I was certainly wrong last night, but I'd be more than willing to stand behind my prediction that Pumas go through. Name the amount, and the loser will make a donation to a charity of the other's choice. You don't honestly think that we'll progress, do you? This would be like the Hitmen beating the Flames. Absolutely could not happen under any circumstances. We're talking the world ceasing to exist if a semi-pro team like Cavalry were to advance over a team of seasoned professionals, almost all of whom didn't even make the trip to Canada for the first leg.

You can downplay this however much you like, but the fact is that was a deserved win last night. It’s not like we got battered for 90 minutes and barely managed to score against the flow. Cavalry played really well and limited the chances that Pumas had. And offensively, Cavalry had several really good moves and generated some good chances.

This whole “they sent the youth team” comment is such bunk. That was 50% starters (including their #1 goalie on loan from Athletic Bilbao), a bunch of depth starters and some youth. From a team with 40x the salary capacity.

So, #### that. This was a massive win for the boys.

No, it wouldn't be like the Hitmen vs the Flames. That is youth amateur vs professional. This would be like a CFL team beating an NFL team, or something along those lines.

The Cavs are not semi-professional. They are professionals that get paid less. I played on a semi-pro team in Calgary (United)...I assure you there is a difference lol.

I think we're going to have match day vlogs for both legs up on our Foot Soldiers Youtube channel so I'll share those here when they are up. Will be cool to live vicariously through those who went.

Expansion news....

As with any expansion news, I'll believe it when I see these teams kicking a ball. But I really want to believe it!

Quote:
According to multiple sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, one expansion club is bound for British Columbia while the other will be in Ontario, should all conditions be met. Sources also said the league is exploring the idea of creating Eastern and Western conferences, with five clubs in each, geography permitting.

East/West divisions would save the league so much money.

I know folks love a balanced schedule, but at least divisions would make playoffs make sense.

The League would be what?

West: Pacific, Van FC, Cavalry, Winnipeg ( new BC team)
East: #### the Forge, Ottawa, HFX, York ( new Ont team)

26 game season, 4 games in division 2 games outside of division?

UNAM play on Sunday, Cavalry are out of season so they can rest.

A mismatch? Maybe but soccer is THE sport where you can neutralize mismatches.

Unfortunately, this competition uses away goals and UNAM got 1 so that'll make things more difficult.

Wonder if it’ll be Okanagan area that was previously rumoured. Would love to see a team there.

My only disappointment with the setup at Starlight was that they didn’t really have a set Cavalry supporters section. I think they should have. We were in the middle of the stand and there were people not happy with us standing, and there were also a lot of Pumas supporters in the section as well. I think that for everyone, it would be better to have a supporters section set aside.
