Mittelstadt is an interesting one in that he's younger than Kadri...but his contract and age don't really make him a long term solution either.
26 years old and 2 x $5.75M left before he's a UFA.
Avs probably need a little retention too...so wonder if expectation is Flames cover the $1.25M delta between Mittelstadt and Kadri and Flames would have to do that for 4+ years.
In that case a 1st / Ritchie / Gulyayev would be needed for sure.

Could be. Mittlestadt has the same number of points as Kadri (29 points) but fewer goals (15 for Kadri and 9 for Mittlestadt). Seems like the coaching staff is not a fan of Mittlestadt though as he has been a healthy scratch. Mittlestadt’s cap hit is $5.75 and it expires at the end of the 2026-2027 season. Kadri’s cap hit is $7 million and it expires at the end of the 2028-2029 season.
Mittlestadt’s contract is not that bad because it only has 3 years left. Flames would be smart to make that trade even if it meant using a retention spot IMO. They won’t have many contracts to trade in the next 2 years that they would need to retain to trade.

We got hosed. I actually think alot of teams looked at that giant error and learned.
Plus the cap is projected to go up, so that makes retention less valuable.

According to Puckpedia's salary cap relief calculator, taking on Anderson's contract is worth the 13th OA pick without the Flames having to add anything.
https://dashboard.puckpedia.com/CapR...ef_player=4869
I don't know how reliable their data set is for their calculator, but some like to use it to get an idea of what past players went for.

Mittelstadt is in the doghouse in Colorado. They had to drop him to the third line due to poor production and poor defensive play.
In this case, the Avs would view Mittelstadt as a cap dump and Kadri would be a significant upgrade as an actual 2nd line C who can drive his line and get the puck in the net.
Ritchie looks to be a good prospect but the Avs cupboards are pretty bare and he is a late 20s draft pick. Landing him would be great but most posters would suggest that a guy picked in the 20s is unlikely to be a top line C.
Of course, I'd love this trade to happen but I only see it coming about if the Flames drop out of the playoffs and the Andersson trade happens too. And then, how quickly would Coleman and Backlund put up their hands and ask for a trade???

Seems about right. 1 year may not be worth as much but 3 more years at that cap hit for a useless player yeah that’s going to cost you.

The Avs have $6.3M in cap space and $11.5M on the LTIR... they would not need for us to retain on Kadri's contract as long as we take Middelstadt off their books.

Still interest in Kadri and Andersson.
Colorado probably the most interested in Kadri, I’ve heard Middlestat+ as a return with Calgary wanting Ritchie as an add.

Hopefully conny has done his work and knows kadri would accept to go back to states. Could be setting himself up for heartache if he gets a great deal and kadri says no.
As for vladar not surprised he’s cooled.

Conroy seems like the type of guy that would be really pro-active and organized with stuff like this - especially since he's very open and vocal with players.
Last year the rumors were he had a very good idea where Markstrom was willing to go and ended up working on that...same with Hanifin.
I'm sure he would know already exactly where Kadri was willing to go (if he's willing to go anywhere at all).

At this point in his career, middelstadt profiles as a decent winger, but poor center. It's Ritchie or bust, to make that happen.
People underestimate the pressure on Colorado. Prime mckinnon and makar, and the looming departure of rantenen. Landeskog could come back for a Vegas style playoffs as well. Shoring up that 2C is a huge priority.

Calgary might ask for Ritchie but he isn’t coming back if Kadri is traded. Mercer for Markstrom 2.0

Would still be worth the gamble for Calgary IMO. Middlestat’s contract is short and he could fit better in a better situation. Pretty sure he was top 10 in even strength production last year. Ritchie is a high upside center that the flames don’t have in the system. Would be a very smart trade for comely to make right now IMO.

I would imagine Colorado would be one of the two places he would be willing to waive for.

He moved family members to Calgary. They don’t get automatic visas to states if he goes there. From the intel posted on this site , I would be pretty shocked if he left Canada.

I'd be shocked if our GM was so unbelievably idiotic that he wouldn't know Kadri's stance on said potential move. But I don’t believe the GM is a paint drinking moron so on the list of concerns we may have I'd wager "Kadri blocks a move after a deal is agreed to" should be pretty low.

From what Seravalli has said on Landeskog he still can't even have a skate without experiencing swelling in his knee. And to actually play he needs to have an extended period of skating and then practising with the knee feeling fine just to get the ok. Seems more likely he will never play again

Not to worry about that once we become a state.
Jokes aside I think Kadri would waive for Colorado or Toronto. Maybe Detroit?
They loved him and he loved them.

Nope! It's for sure all just Colorado's master plan...they've held him out of the 22-23, 23-24, and now 24-25 seasons just to keep him on LTIR until he can come back for the 2025 playoffs after not playing a game for 3 seasons.

I agree. I would trade Kadri straight across for Ritchie, and even add to make it happen, but they aren’t going to trade Ritchie- at least not for Kadri. If they were going to entertain trading him, it would involve some high-end young player.
