I would definitely think he is better than he has shown this season. What has changed this year? Coming off injury and a big new multi year contract.
|
That'd be terrific. And what he's paid for IMO. Can't speak to being outscored significantly in NJD and I won't go by his +/-. I watched him with the Devils a fair bit. I liked his game there. I think he'll get back to his usual self next year. Which dovetails to the second bolded. He hasn't recovered. I'm certain it was a high ankle sprain. He should be sitting. He can go, but we're seeing the result of a guy at 60% health IMO.
Could it be contract pressure? I suppose, it happens with players in that first year of a big deal, but given the injury I'm more likely to point at that.

The difference between decent players and top-line players is consistency. A lot of really skilled guys in the NHL can’t produce consistently. Whether it’s inconsistent effort, concentration, or confidence, they go on runs for 10 games where they look great, and then they’re flat for 20 games.
Every roster has players like that. They’re complementary, but they’ll never be core guys on a good team. Kuzmenko clearly fits the bill. Remains to be seen if Sharangovich is the same.

There was a handful of posters this summer that legitimately wanted to extend Kuzmenko to his retirement contract at 29 years old. That would have been frightening. We could have had this guy for 4-6 years at like $6mil+

Considering that it is 15 years of data, I would assume that the average time per 5 on 3 is largely evened out for all teams. Until we see the data we don't know, but the baseline assumption would be that all teams would be pretty close for time per PP opportunity.
|
Yes, but we don't know what the average percentage is. We only know that 19% is at the bottom of whatever the range is.

Some were very vocal about it and how great of an idea it was. I was saying it was going to be Neal 2.0 and one of them was saying he would challenge for a 100 points and the contract would be a steal

Range: 19.4% (CGY) to 36.1% BOS
Average: 27.4%
Opportunities: 101 - 163 (CGY 18th 129)
Average: 132
TOI: 78.4 - 130.2 (CGY 101.4 17th)
Average: 105.3
Total goals: 21 - 57 (CGY 25 28th)
Average: 36.3
There you go. Flames get average chances and about average time, but have scored among the fewest goals and have the worst production rate, with only 2 teams under 20% (CGY, BUF) and 9 teams over 30%
Now, can we call them terrible? Because it's pretty terrible.

Say no more. Being in a category with Buffalo usually means you are terrible at something.

Yes, now we can call them terrible, because we have numbers for context.

Oh yeah, I remember that thread. This is not meant as a gotcha on any posters, but more just a "wow, how far has this guy fallen" look back.

You can always trade him later - it’s harder to find a desperate team who will trade you a 40 goal scorer as a cap dump.
They can’t just play Huberdeau, Kadri, Weegar, and Sharangovich with a bunch of rookies and dudes on 1-year contracts/ELCs.
That’s no way to run a hockey team.

You can't teach the type of skill Kuzmenko has, it only takes a couple of these rare skilled plays to win a playoff series.
With the cap increasing give him 4 X $6.5
