I dunno, I just ain't a big mystery box guy.

You have a player NOW that is very good. Why trade him for a player that MIGHT be good.

Seems like a pointless gamble.

I see him as already being good, he just plays for the Ducks.

The challenge is finding a top flight C. Holes on the wing are so much easier to fill.

I just don't think Coronato is that much better than McTavish. I think they are pretty much a wash. Mystery box would be trading Coronato for a high pick.

Except McTavish can play C, a position we need to fill, and he can physically handle the other team’s big centers in the playoffs.

For sure. I'd definitely take the swap. I also wouldn't mind a Pelletier for Dach swap

McTavish has shown, several times on TC, against peers, that he is one of the best players on the ice. I couldn't care less what his stats are on ANA - he is a really good player. I think O'Reilly would be a good comparison for what McTavish will be by 24 or 25.

Losing 7 spots, even 15-22 is definitely bad for a rebuilding team, even if you want to ignore the fact that we would indeed have 2 1st round picks, for some reason.
Ultimately what value is there in continuing to criticize the trade? Is anyone saying they love the deal? No.
At some point you move on and deal with the here and now.

Interesting to look at Anaheim's centre group.

Carlsson: 11PTS, 21GP
McTavish: 11 PTS, 21GP
Zegras: 10PTS, 24GP

None of them are flourishing...this has to be a coaching problem (Frank S. certainly has slammed their 'environment')

If McTavish could be had for "help now" like Andersson? Oh I go all day on that one.

Anaheim is one of those teams that should be rounding the corner soon, would Andersson buy into that/be excited to go there?

Insiders are suggesting the gap between Bennett and Florida is pretty large and there is a possibility that they may trade him or decide to keep him as their own "rental".

Tough to imagine Florida not wanting to keep him based on how he always seems to up his game for the playoffs and is the type of player you want.

I don't think Bennett would resign here, nor do I think the Flames should sign him, unless it's a 3-4 year deal tops.

However, I do think it would be interesting for Calgary to trade Pospisil for Bennett + 2027 first, ideally sooner rather than later.

Florida would get a similar player with addition of 3.4 mil/year savings. which would add up to a fair bit of money by the deadline for them to add. Pospisil is also cost controlled for 1 more year and then will be team controlled as he will be an RFA. Hence the first-round pick also attached (may even need a 3rd, or a prospect.)

Calgary would get Bennett which again I don't believe he would resign here; however, Calgary could potentially flip him again at the deadline with retention to a contender. In the end we would lose some of the grittiness Pospisil brings but hopefully could find that in the draft over the next few years, plus I believe Pospisil is 1 or 2 concussions away from being done permanently so we would get away from that risk.

I don't know how to build a good trade for him.

Coronato is probably not enough alone but I think is the logical main piece.
They don't need or likely want Andersson. Doesn't fit their window and D is the one place they have strength in the org.
They probably don't want something like Coleman.

I dont think the difference is a 1st, especially to a team in our position where the 1sts have inflated value.

Is it something like Kerins or Solovyov?

Coronato + one of them for McTavish? Does that tip the scales for Anaheim?

^To GFG.
I don't think there is any way that Florida makes that deal. They aren't going to trade a key player AND a 1st for a worse player.

Pospisil is not worth Bennett + a 1st.

If Bennett does not sign with Florida, he will be the #1 free agent (or just behind Marner).

Bennett is worth more than Pospisil.

I don't think you trade for Bennett, I think you wait and see if he goes UFA and he's willing to sign here. If so, great. If not, fine.

I wonder if Pospisil, Pelletier, and New Jersey's 1st would be close to enough for McTavish? Maybe add a 4th or 5th round pick or one of the Flames many quality defensive prospects...

I think trading Zary for McTavish would be a bad move considering Zary could eventually end up an excellent 2nd line center for the Flames. I also wouldn't like trading Coronato, but he might be what it takes to get a center with McTavish's potential.

ANA is going to see much better offers than that.

With the cap going up, Bennett probably benefits more by going to UFA unless Florida is offering the full 8 years. Some team is going to overpay for him,
