relying on fancy stats for a 21yo C on a #### team is... just not smart

On a bad team.

He faces the heavies against most shifts.

He has a very bright future as at 22 he requires no sheltering and generates a tonne.
I like Coronato as much as the next guy, but those numbers are heavily influenced by playing with Mikael Backlund.

He is also a winger and has yet to prove he can stick in the NHL. He has shown well of late and thats great.

You move him in a heartbeat if thats what it takes to get MM.

Besides, McTavish is a legacy and that has to count for something!

Possible grounds for a 3-way trade here with ANA, BUF and CGY...

BUF: Andersson
ANA: Cozens, 2nd
CGY: McTavish

The 2nd coming from BUF

We have 3 years of data on Mactavish. He just isn't that good yet.

McTavish has the potential to be a great player - I would give up Andersson straight across for him

Excellent post, but could those numbers be somewhat due to the “Backlund Effect”? I think if you take in McT and put him with Backs and Coleman, he would have sparkling underlying metrics as well.Just a theory…

Coronato is the sixth highest scorer on the team with 5 less games played than anyone above or below him. If you think he's not sticking with the team all year, I disagree.

YET.

That's the problem with stats, they're historical only. And his history is as an 19-21yo C on the 2nd worst team in hockey.

We wouldn't be acquiring that guy, we'd be acquiring the 22-30yo McTavish. And his ceiling is 1st line C.

Coronato looked pretty great on the 4L with Lomberg & Kirkland too.

I think he's just a great player coming along at a normal pace.

Andersson for Cozens and a 2nd seems like a mediocre return

Backlund and Colemans possession numbers get quite a bit worse when they are away from Coronato.

He is helping drive that line, he isn't a passenger so far this year.

For the Sabres. Not going to get that return for one year of Andersson.

Mactavish is a Flame legacy player so there's that.

Ya I personally would not trade Coronato. I think he is our best forward under the age of 25 in the system. Strikes me as a potential consistent 30 goal guy who is good defensively.

For CGY, it's Andersson for McTavish

I would do that.

I brought BUF in as the 3rd team because I would expect that ANA wants a young player back, not Andersson

Ducks with Andersson, Gudas & Trouba on their blueline? They would be a handful. Physically & verbally lol

I'd do Coronato for McTavish and take the gamble on the the bigger centre over an smaller winger

Idk, I respect your argument but I just envision a future captain and playoff warrior who can drag the troops into battle. Plus, he’s a young C that we’re coveting these days, and he’s 6’1” and 215 lbs.
