Vlad has been better than his numbers show this year, but he still looks like the odd man out for me. Cool Wolf looks like the tandem of 2025/2026 to me.
Based on? His NHL career numbers are ugly. He was sharp in the minors after a few years of bad during development.
IMO he is, at most, an average NHL back up and has been figured out by the league for the most part.
Not sure he would hold a whole lot of value to very many clubs.

Yeah, it's been 3 seasons plus this one where he's had not impressive NHL numbers (plus his 1st 5-game sample in Boston, too). At what point can you stop arguing that he's better than his numbers, and conclude that maybe his numbers are who he is?
I dunno, I think i'd pay Bob $10 million for the next 50 years if it won me a cup.
He was the second best goalie in every series until the finals. The Panthers won the cup and while he was good, it wasn't because of him. The year before that argument would've been much more valid when he posted insane numbers.
Goalies are so volatile, I wouldn't pay one top dollar. I get that Shesterkin will get the money and we'll see how he handles it but it becomes such an anchor if he isn't their best player every game and from year to year.

Last night was the ultimate example of this line of thinking;
Shesterkin gave up 5 goals on 12 shots......to the Sabres.

Scuttlebutt out of Montreal is that Gallagher isn't happy with the on ice effort level. That screams a locker room problem, and for once it's not Laine because he's been injured all year.
I could see a trade sooner rather than later to iron things out.

Laine really isn't a problem, at least not what people make him out to be. He's gone from one ####ty situation to another, first in Winnipeg with the rotten leadership to Columbus where the team sucked and made him play center. On top the mental health issues. The guy hasn't complained once, the problem with him is he can't stay healthy.

From what I am hearing, Dach & Dvorak seem to be the odd men out.
I think Dvorak has been on the trade block forever and will get snagged at the deadline (retained) for a 3rd as he is a UFA next year and way overpaid for what he brings.
Dach I don't know. He has shown potential, but had major injury and consistency issues. Maybe there is an opportunity to buy low, but is he a solution or a problem?

Lol. This isn't a criticism, it's commentary around how fans from all teams are constantly packaging up any of their players who are from Quebec (and sometimes even if they aren't, but have French names lol) into trade proposals with the Habs, as if the players and/or needs of the Habs matter less than them being Francophone!

Based on nothing at all, but I think that dvorak and armia are fairly easy to trade as UFAs. The problem might be what to do with Anderson, who has two years left at 5.5 and not a lot of value versus the cap.
Would calgary have to add in an Anderson for huberdeau swap, or is it fairly even given a high chance of a rebound playing with a high caliber offense in suzuki/dach/slavofsky/caufield/newhook?

You're wondering if one of the worst contracts in NHL history with 7 years at 10.5AAV left on it would be a straight swap for Josh Anderson with 3 years at 5.5AAV left or if we would have to add?! Not only would we have to add, but there's likely not enough add in the world to make Montreal bite, lol.

Dumping Huberdeau right now would start with 50% retention for 7 years on our part, making it unfeasible before we even get out the door on the trade market.

I hate to pile on Huberdeau but sooner or later, he is going to be blocking young wingers who need minutes on the top 2 lines and on the PP.
If retaining 50% means you could move him without giving up draft capital or taking on a long contract, I would do it.
$5.25 million of dead cap hit 7 years from now is better than $10.5. And I just don't see the guy ever really being a good fit on this team if/when they are a contender.

There will be room soon enough. Kuzmenko and Mantha will be gone this year and Coleman might be gone next year. The best bet is ride out his contract until he has a few years left and then dump him to a team that needs cap. No chance an owner will eat 50% of a contract for nothing for 7 years.
