Kyle is a great person and incredible at what he does, deserves everything he's achieving. Marek is a GOAT and Rogers is doing a good job of destroying their own product out of greed.

I still think moving Rasmus is the easiest path to getting a #1 centre. A solid #2 d-man is hard to find, but not nearly as hard as a #1 centre. D-men tend to develop later, so those guys can frequently be found on the UFA market. Even Bouwmeester was picked up via trade as he was set to become a UFA. The Flames are very unlikely to see that same scenario play out when they are looking for a #1 centre.
Rasmus will be 30 when he starts his next contract. The Flames should definitely not be signing him or any other to retirement contracts.

I am actually a little surprised by the goalie market. They are so important to team success. I am sort of surprised we dont see their AAV higher but term shorter. I get the risk of term on a goalie, but when they are good they are worth every dollar.

The biggest risk is healthy competition when you have a big dollar goalie. It’s hard to sit em and it’s hard to motivate them to stay hungry.

With how well Cooley is playing and how many teams are struggling in goal I wonder if Conny is getting calls on Vladar.

I believe that's what Maloney said - that there were offers on the table, and that they were going to take a rebuilding offer until Florida came with their offer that was 'substantially better'.

Argue rebuild or not, at the time, that Florida offer seemed over-the-top. Hindsight shows that it wasn't the case, but at the time, it was a home-run for the Flames. I know I was all aboard the rebuild, but when that trade went down, I was all aboard the win-now. Most people here wanted Huberdeau re-signed, and most people figured that it would have been the rumoured Gaudreau offer.

With the benefit of hindsight, I feel the Flames still should have taken the Florida offer, but then flipped Huberdeau right away. I can't imagine the return on a 115pt player at half his contract (2.85 million? Thereabouts?) with no trade protection. Flames could have kicked-off that rebuild really nicely. They would have held onto Monahan for another season as there was no impetus to trade him either, rather than just punting that pick (probably that pick, depending on how they finish this year).

Two main issues with signing goalies to big contracts:

A) Very few goalies are elite for more than four or five years.

B) The quality of goalies in the NHL today is so high that the difference good goalies and elite goalies is small.

I've been thinking that myself, it would be amazing if he were the real deal.

So far, 7-2-0-2, with a 1.54 GAA, and a .953 SV%.

I only know of interest in both Andersson and Vladar currently.
Outside of guys we wouldn’t want to give up of course

Thats what I mean. If they have been elite offer them inflated AAV on 2-3 year deals.

I mean I understand why this doesnt happen, but would like to see it. Signing a goalie to 8 years is a risk. But goalies likely dont want to bet on themselves like that and teams dont want to have a high cap hit for the short term.

Wonder who is calling about Vladar, thinking Colorado and Pittsburgh but who knows.

Wonder if Conny could weaponize cap space with Pittsburgh and take Jarry back……

Raz and Vlad as the biggest trade candidates makes too much sense to me. If Raz isn't 115% onboard for an extension, and has some feeling of wanting to move on - this season is the time.

Vlad has been better than his numbers show this year, but he still looks like the odd man out for me. Cool Wolf looks like the tandem of 2025/2026 to me.

I like Vladar, but clearly WOLF is the future. And Cooley seems like probably one of the best people to have in a locker room as long as he can play 35% of the games at an nhl back up level.

I think we will see a sell off of the Kuzmenkos and Anderssons, and this team will again look even younger next year.

Most fun I’ve had watching in a while to be quite honest
