Only for the last 20 or 30 games. First half, he was one of the best.
Last year, he may have been the best.

Not as much value as Andersson. Why wouldn’t they just aim for the comparable returns and take futures? Best case is Girard pops and gets the same return as Andersson and worst case is his value tanks. Taking on a lot of risk for nothing.

I don't know, points kind of was a secondary thing with Kadri when we signed him.
He has always been a consistent 50 point player, and that was what I expected, but what was unexpected was that it looked like he mailed it in. That was one of the big X factors, he was a player that brought it every night and in the playoffs.
Seems like Sutter really did a number on a bunch of players.

Why do the Avs give up a 1st to exchange two higher value players for two lower value players while adding to their cap issues, then?

Kadri -7x5 = 35 left on his deal. I would rather take all that cash back in a deal (various players) that expire in 3 years. That way, it won't mess with any future re-signings. Add value back if the players are bringing in negative cap, straight-across if those players are decent value. Point is, I think Kadri starting this season at age 34, while continuing to play for Calgary until his last season at which point he starts the season at age 39 is ignoring the elephant in the room. That 7 million might only be 5 million in today's dollars, but it is still 5 million that can be used to extend someone longer term or have to bridge someone instead.
Kadri is doing a great job, absolutely. He isn't dead cap at this point. He has value to the right team. He is adding value to Calgary right now, which is why I am not saying to trade him as a cap dump. I am just saying if there is something half-decent out there, you pull the trigger.
Don't let this become another Frolik situation. There are vets you can bring in on short-term deals that will help keep the team playing the right way. I definitely do not want a scorched-earth rebuild. I just think prudence should be shown on two players specifically - Kadri and his impending negative cap hit (the first year he regresses he will be a negative unmovable asset), and Rasmus and his sweetheart contract that is devaluing as the time on it is running out.
I really think Andersson would return a significant return with his cap hit - the same exact reason that Hamonic returned what he did, only I think Andersson has more value.
If I was Conroy, I would actively shop Rasmus, while I listen on Kadri. I would not circle his name as someone who is critical in retaining for the rebuild. You already have Huberdeau, Weegar, Backlund, Coleman, Pospisil (yes, the guy who competes in practice the way he competes in games), Lomberg (yes, the guy who never stops competing either), and whomever else they want to sign down the road.
Kadri is a nice to have right now, absolutely. I am not saying otherwise. We just can't ignore the fact that he will not be a nice to have at some point in the duration of this contract. I would rather trade him sooner rather than later, so the Flames can afford to keep all their higher-priced deals that they need, along with Huberdeau's deal that is already on the books.

They aren't lower value, the gap suggested between our guys and their guys is just not as much as some are suggesting
Rasmus is better in his own zone than Girard, probably a better fit in Colorado. But he won't touch the PP there.
We could use a pp dman right now. Rasmus had plenty of chances to shine on the PP for years with guys like Gaudreau and Tkachuk and he has all of 4 career PP goals. Flames PP has always been a disappointment for years, not all on Rasmus but his value is slipping, already lost the top PP role last year.
Girard has had one year where he got 23 min a night and got 32 points in 48 games, that paces out to top Rasmus career high in points.
Could be a win win move.
Kadri is better than Colton but makes more. We get the 1st for retaining salary on Rasmus to even the money out. We might get more but not a ton more.
Both playesr we get are in their mid 20s as well.

Yeah, I think the gap between Andersson and Girard is pretty sizable. Girard is a small offensive oriented dman and Andersson is a two way dman with size and grit.
Girard is fine as a toss in to see if he can reclaim some value but as a centerpiece in a trade where Andersson is going the other way at 50% is just bad value.
Take a better futures return for Andersson and flip Kadri if it makes sense. If you were adding Andersson to Huberdeau at 50% then I'd be all over it but Kadri's contract isn't that bad.

If Conroy can get the return people suggest, great but I doubt it
|
They won’t stop. Jake DeBrusk is a winger whose career high in points is 50 and he just got 5.5 million. Kadri has been for a few years now a guy that you can reasonably expect to get 60-70 points. That type of production from a center will have good value at 7 million. The earliest the Flames will have to sign any young prospect of importance to a long term deal is in the 2nd last year of Kadri’s contract, more likely the last year. He will not affect in anyway their ability to sign any of the top prospects they picked up this year or in 2025 or 2026z

As I have said before, I don't think moving Kadri is an option. Tre gave him his retirement deal here and he loves the city and doesn't want to move on. He already has a SC, I think at this point family and location are more important than chasing another Cup.

And the All-Star game. How many other teams' worst player can say the same thing?

Oilers are kind hooped. We should spend a 2nd rounder and sign Broberg to an offer sheet.

I'm getting the impression that "family" means extended family so it would be pretty problematic to once again move that group, especially to a U.S. team due to citizenship of the other family members.

Most here are hoping that is going to be a very early 2nd rounder so, in this case, I'm good with the magic bean.

The value of using it to sign an offer sheet is greater IMO. We rob the Oil of what appears to be a competent young D man and use him against them. On the other side of the coin, if they keep him for the offer sheet value it further strangles their cap situation.
The 2nd isn't a magic bean, it's a bullet.

Meh, I don’t think Broberg is worth overspending cap on. The Oilers will also repay the favour when they suck in 4 years lol.
