I'm pretty sure that they had strong indication that neither Backstrom nor Oshie will be returning this season. Which gives them about $15M of LTIR. They're currently $13.3M over and need to bring up 2 forwards, and maybe send down 1 defenceman.

Who is that? Fehervary is a regular for 3 seasons now, and Bear is in the NHL assistance program, and his cap hit is just over 2.

If you are in the player assistance program, your contract still counts for the salary cap.

Kadri and Rasmus 50% Retained
for
Colton, Girard and Colorado's 1st in 25
We get 2 guys that contracts expire in 3 years
Colorado gets better now.
Maybe we can get more out of them, but I'd like to see a long-term risky contract moved in Conroy's next big move.

I would prefer Conroy continue to try to get good returns on his assets.

That’s not enough even without retention.
I’d try to pry Mcgoarty from Winnipeg with Rasmus or Kasper from Detroit. Kadri alone with no retention (but pick up a contract from Colorado) for their 1st.
Coleman should have a lot of takers. Even Seattle to pair him with Gourde as they want to turn the corner.

Almost every team in the league has cap issues if they take Kadri. He also has a NMC, and I bet only waives to a few teams. His value is not high, if Conroy does not move him this year, we risk being stuck.
He will add to a team, but we need to be realistic on what the return will be straight up. 2nd maybe, unless he waives to a team that is unexpected.
Colton and Girard can be moved in a year for picks too. It's not like we would be stuck with players that aren't assets as well.

Berniers and Tolvanen new contracts...there goes Seattle's cap space.

Just get better assets for Andersson.
Kadri for Girard is a good base for a contract swap. Andersson @ 50% for Colton and a late 1st is pretty brutal for the Flames.

And what's the downside of being "stuck"?
He has 5 years left at $7M with a rising cap for a team that has absolutely no cap concerns for at least the next 3-5 seasons...this team is unlikely to be a contender in that window, likely has no real large contracts to re-sign in that time, and he's still a good veteran leader for the young guys.
You only move Kadri if you're getting a good return, it's useless to move him as a "salary dump" to get a 2nd back.

Risk for me is if we do this well, we will have guys to sign.
Kadri puts up 50 points this year, calls will stop with his contract. This team is going to suck, he might play through it but if he doesn't we could be stuck.
If Conroy can get the return people suggest, great but I doubt it

If Kadri gets only 50 points this year because of inferior line mates, teams can figure that out, as long as he's playing good hockey.
Kadri and Andersson are both good hockey players, they don't need to be moved in case we get stuck with them.
I'd rather take that risk (and there is some risk with respect to Kadri, but I don't think its great) than move them out without a proper return.

Your talking about pitching the only Center we have signed past the end of next year?
Im all about trading assets for picks but unless someone blows you away your talking about a last place finish team for years. Kadri provides leadership in our most valued position. He is playing at pretty much top line level in his mid thirties i dont suddenly expect huge drop off but it could happen i guess.
In short i see him as the least problematic of our problems. Now if the option to trade hubes comes up look at it but short if a strange twist no one sees coming both players are here to stay. Even with these guys were barely at cap floor.
Trade Anderson when the right deal comes. Kuzmenko as well, i dont see him long term with our glut of wingers. Give Backs the opportunity to chase a cup if he desires.
Above all keep the guys who WANT to be flams.

Andersson at 50% should easily get the Hronek/Lindholm/Chychrun return.
Adding him to Kadri to get a late 1st and two cap dumps is brutal asset management.
Kadri for Girard + a 2nd is understandable but the Flames would need to find some other salary first.

I love how Colton and Girard are being viewed as nothing in this discussion, it's not like we are getting Lucic back. Both are good players

For sure, and they'd fetch good returns at the deadline.
But as two of the centerpieces for a deal with Naz and Ras PLUS retention?
I'll pass.
