Kinda cool - head of scouting for McKeens, Brock Otten, out of Ontario does his annual OHL rankings for the draft.

Flames grabbed 4 of his Top 15 from the OHL:
"
My Rank Player Name PO OHL Team NHL Team RD Pick
1 Sam Dickinson D London SJ 1 11
2 Zayne Parekh D Saginaw CGY 1 9
3 Beckett Sennecke W Oshawa ANA 1 3
4 Liam Greentree W Windsor LA 1 26
5 Jett Luchanko C Guelph PHI 1 13
6 Marek Vanacker W Brantford CHI 1 27
7 Ben Danford D Oshawa TOR 1 31
8 Sam O'Reilly C London EDM 1 32
9 Cole Beaudoin C Barrie UTAH 1 24
10 Henry Mews D Ottawa CGY 3 74
11 Carter George G Owen Sound LA 2 57
12 Luke Misa C Mississauga CGY 5 150
13 AJ Spellacy C Windsor CHI 3 72
14 Lukas Fischer D Sarnia STL 2 56
15 Jacob Battaglia W Kingston CGY 2 62"

full list

I'm really happy to hear this coming from you given your links to the organization and knowing that while BPA is likely their strategy (my guess), the US factor does factor in. I'd rather not see another Adam Fox situation.

It is so refreshing looking at a variety of outlets' early impressions/draft grades and almost all having the Flames as an A and being one of the best.

Of course we won't know how well it will truly be until 3+ years, but first impressions are very well received.

Our Chief Scout E-Mac recently submitted and we've just now published:

Spoiler: Flames receive an "A" grade
*but so much worth checking out in our mammoth spreadsheet which also links up again to CP's own Sandman's prospect profiles

the same 6 in a slightly different order for Craig Buttons list as well.

It is so encouraging that it is not just a one-off obscure list. That these 6 show up over and over on many lists.

absolutely love how RHD has suddenly become the biggest strength in our prospect pool. First Brzustewicz, now you add Parekh and Mews? All your high scoring RHDs from the OHL belong to us! Awesome to see.
Next year's draft will hopefully fill the C void and the team can start moving forward with a recurring pipeline of good, skilled NHL prospects that they will have started accumulating since 2023.

With any luck there will be a few top line Cs to choose from in the top 5 as the year progresses.

Yeah it sucks that at both pick 9 and 28 there was a run of centers before the Flames pick that didn't leave any centers available.

At 9 you'd have been looking at Helenius instead of Parekh. (I wouldn't have minded...but I think most would think Parekh has the higher upside).

It also resembles a lot of the rankings and mock draft out there. If the results in a few years match what was predicted by many, it will be like having 6 picks in the first 2 rounds.

It is really exciting how quickly Conroy has put together a deep prospect pool of defencemen. One year ago, it was very thin. Now, it looks to be one of the better prospect pools in the league at that position - including potentially one of the most offensively-skilled defencemen to ever be drafted out of the OHL in Parekh.

If Conroy takes this same aggressive approach to collecting/drafting centermen over the next season or two, it will make for an exciting rebuild especially in the 2025-2026 season as young guys that the flames have acquired over the early stages of this rebuild begin to enter the league.

Or maybe parts of three players in his model

Parekh 0.9
Basha 0.7
Gridin 0.6

(guessing)

About this time last year, we had a crew wanting to fire Conroy....this is the most exciting looking future the Flames have had since the late 80s

Is this at all meaningful immediately after the draft? I'm sure any team could plug players into that model and see who they should draft at each pick to get the best expected result. I guess it's just fun to speculate on this kinda stuff.
