Flames 2024 Draft - Your Overall Thoughts & Ratings

  1. Zayne Parekh
  2. Matvei Gridin
  3. Andrew Basha
  4. Jacob Battaglia
  5. Henry Mews
  6. Kirill Zarubin
  7. Trevor Hoskin
  8. Luke Misa
  9. Hunter Laing
  10. Eric Jamieson

At first glance, gotta be extremely pleased with what the Flames did in the draft. Love the focus on skill and high ceilings. Awesome value picks where some guys were taken(Basha, Misa, Mews)...

Now the 2025 and 2026 draft is where we can really load up on Center/F prospects with how we loaded up the defensive side of the prospect pool. Can't help but be excited about the future with Conroy at the helm. He's done a great job so far.
A+!

Easy A+, defense has gone from a bottomless void to an organizational strength. Value in every round.

It’s very hard to imagine a time we’ve ever had a stronger bunch of D in development.

I’m also happy that, with that settled, they can focus on offensive upside next year more heavily, especially with our own and Vegas’ firsts in play (unless I’m forgetting something!)

They mined a ton of value on day 2. Can't help but be pleased with their efforts. Now the development team has its hands full. Might need to hire a couple more.

The big wins for me were Misa and Mews. Getting them where they got them is properly astonishing.

IMO our D prospect pool is as stacked as it's ever been.

5 high end offensive guys and a whole slew of quality defensive Dmen too

Hopefully next year we see a lot of centers as BPA with our picks and start to stack that part of the pool too.

Great draft. Am a little surprised that flames didn’t trade a pick or 2 for a young almost established player. Guess the market wasn’t there.

Parekh is a blue chipper. Possible #1 franchise defenseman.

Great value/steals getting Basha, Mews, and Misa where they did.

Good strategy in general going for high upside players in earlier rounds, and then looking at organizational needs in later rounds.

Conroy is off to a great start in this rebuild. Just need a couple of top 6 centers and they're looking good.

I'm generally a pretty optimistic person, and the draft looks solid vs consensus rankings for sure.

I do get a little worried when teams take too many falling players though.

That's why I like the Gridin pick before Basha. They went off their list and not the consensus and then still got a player that was supposed to go in the first round with the 41st pick.

My gut says they didn't drop their list and go with falling players though, that doesn't seem to be the make up.

Just landed where it landed.

Parekh is a huge pick ... never imagined him landing in the 9 spot. I thought the big eight would be gone, and instead they had two of the eight to choose from.

Iginla would have been an amazing story, but having him picked before releases the team from the comparisons.

Parekh looks like a video game.

A+

If we can't play much defence we might as well try to outscore the other teams.

7-6 is the new D. Sutter's 2-1!

disappointed at the lack of centers early on, but hard not to like the selections that were made. Misa could be a steal at 150.

absolutely love how RHD has suddenly become the biggest strength in our prospect pool. First Brzustewicz, now you add Parekh and Mews? All your high scoring RHDs from the OHL belong to us! Awesome to see.

This was the best draft I can remember for the Flames since 2016. We got a lot of value picks and players with great potential. I really look forward to seeing a lot of those players become the new core of the team.

2015, 2016 but ya. Besides that average OJHL kid I'm liking most picks. Would've loved the Poirier brother in the late rounds

I still don't get why the Canucks included Brzustewicz into the Lindholm trade. I'm sure Conroy would have taken the deal even without him.

We can claim him off waivers later...

An A level draft. Only thing that would have pushed to A+ for me would be Iginla an 11th name on that list.

Would you be ok if we lost Weegar and next year's 1st for him?

Thank you CP for your comments and thoughts about the players. I have not watched any of them play but it sounds like we have a lot to be excited about.

Just an observation but maybe something for discussion... 8 Canadians and 2 Russians.
