Flames are in talks for Laine possibly.

I think in general that's why you don't see a lot of offer sheets.

I love the idea of getting under the skin of Oilers management. You just know they would be looking for an opportunity at payback, and would - in all likelihood - go way overboard and overpay for some middling player.

Wonder what Ottawa is up to? They’ve traded away some players mostly for cap space. Are they rumoured to be in on any trade targets?

I wouldn't be shocked to see them bring Tarasenko back in as well.

Wouldn’t shock me Edmonton chasing Laine….

To EDM
Laine (50%)
Danforth

To CLB
Ceci
Broberg
McLeod

Defense needs no help so they might as well get another trigger man.

That's $9.8M coming in, $5.45M with the 50% retention, and just Ceci and McLeod's $5.35M going out.

They currently have -$2,454,167 projected cap space. Even with the retention which I don't get why CBJ would due for a terrible return, the money still doesn't work.

Getting Laine would be so bittersweet.
I would love to see him turn it around and be a star in Flames silks, but I want the Flames to tank for the next 2-3 years and get some elite talent.

Would an effective Laine be enough to pull us back into the mushy middle??
Or trade Kuzmenko and a second for him with the hopes to trade him in 1.5 years for a haul??

What’s another $100k in the hole when they already clearly have a get out of jail free card in hand.

Trading Coleman to make space for a potential cap dump seems like the most logical move next, but for me it'll be the one that hurts the most - love him as a player, seems like a good fit with everyone in the org, wants to be here, family looks like they're happy & settled here. Much different scenario than some of the other ungrateful bums we've shipped out recently.

That is a really bad trade for Columbus. Don’t think they will need to retain and the only decent piece they are getting back is Broberg. Ceci has negative value and Danforth might be better than McLeod.

With the Oilers filling out their roster and going over, before taking care of Broberg or Holloway, I would be pretty pissed if I were either of them. Pretty much need to be sign below what they are worth if they want to stay there. A 3rd round compensation really screws with them. If each signed 2M, even with Kane LTIR they would be screwed.

They don't need to trade him to create space. They have plenty of it already.

Teams go over the cap during the summer all the time, no one is pissed over it.
