Yeah, the last thing a rebuilding team wants to do is acquire a good young player!
Also, acquiring Holloway would not negatively impact their 1st round pick in 2025. He is not materially better, today, than whoever he would replace in the lineup. Add Stamkos, and you might add a few points to the standings. Holloway? Zero.

Generally? Yes.
But if the Flames offer-sheeted an Oiler? There is only one franchise in the league that would look negatively on it. There would be a fair number that would lean back and smile.

I could be wrong, but because our 1st is tied up in trade conditions I am not sure it would eligible to be used in an offer sheet. Even if we could use it, I wouldn’t want to give up a potential top 10 pick for either Lundell or Pinto.
I would offer sheet Holloway but as long as we kept to a point where it cost our 2nd at most. Just to reignite the rivalry.

I'd rather offer sheet Broberg and save him from a life of Oilertude.

I believe you are correct, Flames don't have their own 1st in 2025, as its locked due to the conditions.
Therefore an offer sheet, I don't believe is an possible option.

The Flames can make an offer sheet but cannot go over 4.5 or somewhere close to that.
The only offer sheet they can is that of the value on a 2nd round pick.

I think it's more likely that Flames will trade for RFA players than give out offer sheets.

Read that incorrectly! When you see someone complain a lot the lines start to blur.

Wonder if they could threaten offer sheet for Mercer. Gotta think jersey doesn’t want to pay him 4.5 yet

Why are some people so high on Lundell? I was able to watch him during playoffs and didn't think he was anything special. I haven't looked but is his underlying numbers amazing?

But they would as opposed to letting him go.
They could easily trade him for a first, so the threat would be wasted.

i wanted them to trade for him last trade deadline i always liked tarasenko

There are two ranges that the Flames could utilize:
Under $1,511,702 - this requires no compensation
$2,290,458 - $4,580,917 - this requires a 2nd round pick
So the Flames could offer $1.5M (which probably gets matched), or they could offer something between $2.3 and $4.5M, which would cost them their 2nd, if not matched

I'm trying to think of one reason why Tarasenko would want to come to the rebuilding Flames on, presumably, a one year contract with no no trade protection so Calgary can flip him at the deadline.
I'm not coming up with anything.
The kinda guys Calgary needs to look at are those who are currently struggling (especially with finding ice time) who could rebuild their value and then get flipped. Those that have little choice but to accept what they can get contract wise.

Considering Tarasenko told the Senators the only team he would accept a trade to is the Panthers, in part because that is where his family lives, I can’t see any reason why he would look to join a team that is, aside from one or maybe two or three teams, as far away as he could possibly be from Miami.
