Nobody who has made the big club full time is a prospect.

Age is probably only a factor if you’re trying to figure which guys who haven’t made the team are still considered prospects.

Would be amazing if they’re somehow terrible next year and lose their lottery pick in the McKenna draft. I doubt it but one major injury could ruin their whole season

I was pretty surprised Chernyshov did not go in rnd 1.

They could stand to get a bit unlucky with the lottery.

You state this like a fact, but it is an opinion.

I consider all young players to be prospects, even while they start playing in the NHL.

That's literally not what a prospect is. If they're playing full time, they're not a prospect.

Again, according to your definition of prospect.

Do you consider Bedard a prospect? If not, your definition of a prospect is flawed.

Of course not. He played in the nhl all year.

According to everyone's definition. A prospect is a player playing In a development league. If he comes up to the nhl then goes back to a development league then he can be considered a prospect still but once they make the nhl full time they aren't a prospect anymore.

And he ended up being an NHLer playing for multiple teams.

That's a better outcome than a good percentage of late 1st rounders.
He's was the 21st pick and out of all the first round players he's 19th in games played. Ok pick in an awful draft imo.

The Nieuwendyk/best player of the draft was just Feaster Feastering

Had a lot of fun co-hosting a live draft show at bow river brewery tonight. Really love the Flames picks. Getting high upside guys with both picks. Home run.

Parekh, if he hits his potential, could be an impact player #1 D-man for this team. That is incredibly needed especially after the trades that happened this year. Need two potential top pairing guys, and we have one now. Just need to get another in the next year or two. Probably targetting D with the extra first we have next year.

Well, no. A player that has made the NHL full time is, by any definition, no longer a prospect.

You can argue what constitutes “full time,” (it has less to do with players that start playing in the NHL and more to do with the likelihood of them going back to the AHL for development, in my opinion) but once they’re in the NHL full time they’re not a prospect. And that includes Bedard, regardless of how you define “full time.” He’s already a star in the NHL, and you’re suggesting he’s still a prospect lol.

Of course Bedard is still a prospect - he is no where near his potential yet. Nor do we even know if he is finished growing.

Seeing Becket Sennecke's reaction was awesome. It is so rare these days to see a prospect genuinely shocked when they are drafted.

okay so literally everyone's a prospect then lol

you're never going to know when bedard is "finished growing". there's not going to be like a download complete pop up letting you know he's maxed out his potential

The Athletic's Scott Wheeler lists the Flames among his "winners" for round 1.

His other winners are Montreal, Minnesota, Sharks, Blackhawks, Islanders, and Dallas

That’s not what a prospect is. That’s a player who is still developing, which includes guys into their 30s. The amount players develop is just higher when they’re younger.

A prospect is a “prospective NHLer.” That’s all it means. That’s why some guys stop being prospects before they make the NHL, because at a certain point they’re no longer prospective NHLers.

I know this is going to be a weird thing you get hung up on, but you’re just wrong. It’s not a difference of opinion, you are just literally wrong, and that’s OK.
