I haven't really paid much attention to Crosby lately, the guys is still putting up 90+ point seasons at 35/36 years old.
I really hope McDavid doesn't extend with the coilers again.
Two more years and then walk as a UFA for nothing please.

Always hate the narrative that the Oilers have the best 2 players in the world, no they do not.

Just one of those would be hilarious, but the fact that they have that much dead money is astounding. Year after year.
It'll be an interesting summer in Shelbyville.

That's fair. Although I don't think they faced an aggressive or fast PP outside of a couple games against Vancouver which I think played into the record but they did what they had to.
Thankfully pay raised should decimate the roster over the next couple years.

Edmonton had a lot of luck getting to the finals. Gets in with the 4th worst record in the west. But they get to play the sad LA Kings - the worst western PO team (maybe with Nashville). Then they played the paper tiger Pacific champ with their backup in net. Then they play a team that had to go through Vegas and the Avs.

The best dangler and the second best power play one-timer scorer?
Best player, no way, so many boxes unchecked.

His points pace (per 82) in his 3 seasons in EDM (where his points are bolstered by playing with Draisaitl) are: 74, 56 and 46, i.e. falling off a cliff. His PPG in the playoffs were 0.4.
If he were a UFA this summer, would you offer him $5M? I sure wouldn't. Completely ignoring his cancerous presence, and just looking at his production, I would expect he is a 30 point player next year, and on any other team, I would probably take the under on that.
If they trade him, it's as a cap dump.
|
Many Oilers fans think they can dump Kane; but I think they are stuck with him. Had one good year playing with the McDrai and his age/body is showing.
Coupled with the absolute cancer he is, Edmonton is going to have to pay for someone to take him.

I personally love it because it is completely delusional. My response is always that’s crazy to have the two best players in the world and still be unable to win the Cup.

Kane had zero points after the first two rounds. Despite having 15m of ice time per game. A complete non factor in the POs, which was where I think Edmonton thought he'd excel.

Kenny Holland is on his way to Chicago to sort that out.

I hear you, and agree, but these days when I hear people say that I bring up one happy fact: How monumentally inept does your organization have to be to have iced the "two best players in the world" for nearly a decade with absolutely nothing to show for it? It gets even funnier when they start talking about individual points and scoring awards and the Conn Smythe.

Yeah there's really nothing repeatable about their run outside of a first round formality vs the Kings. Kings need to either take it up a notch to legit contender or let another team take their spot that's not going to roll out the red carpet for the Oilers.

I have a bad feeling they are searching casino garbage cans for evidence to terminate his contract.

I irrationally see red when I hear "best player in the world". It's overhype - any player who's the best in the NHL is the best in the world because no league comes close. But no one was proclaiming Sid or Jarome or Jagr or Mario or even Gretzky were "best in the world" because it just sounds so stupid.
Not to mention you can make a good case against McDavid based on his poor 200 foot game.

Hate to be that guy, but he did say "the fans" right after. The clip is just way more entertaining with that part cut out.

IMO it's the right thread though. Theory out there is all the guys that contributed are back next year. Their PP scored 30%, only 23% after the Kings but this team loses earlier if the competition they play is better, the PK is 85% or worse or they have any injuries, or they play a full healthy team earlier.

The PO format sucked. How does 104 pt Edmonton play 99 point LA and 110 point Winnipeg has to play 107 point Colorado ?

Hintz missed the 1st 3 games and other than 1 game that line was invisible. Hintz plays from game 1, Dallas likely wins the series.

To be fair, that's only because people would take literally any excuse to lay that superlative on any other player. First it was Ovechkin, then Bergeron, then Toews, then Giroux (???), then Toews again... then Bergeron again. It's insane how much disrespect Crosby got in his heyday, actually. One of my cousins tried to convince me that Malkin was better than Crosby once lol.

But did they say "in the world". "Best in the league" doesn't bug me as much - it's just an description that lots of players have had.
In the world seems like they are trying to make McDavid something above, say, Mario at his prime.
