For sure, but all the key pieces are still in place. They just need to fill out the depth.
I also worry some decent vets will go there on discounted 1-2 year deals to try and win a cup with McDrai.
Hope I'm wrong though. Hopefully they suck ass.

Wait you know it is Edmonton right?
The Siberia of the NHL.
There other opportunities in the NHL for vets to win a cup that don't include moving to the Anus of the NHL

They would also subject themselves to playing a maximum of 8 minutes a night and tank their potential earnings

You should try to put a full roster together. Give Broberg and Holloway minimum qualifying offers. Then buyout Campbell.
What does that leave them per player for the vacant slots? 5F, 1D, 1G.

It's doable, but they are going to #### up their future a bit in the process. Still got a first next year to trade, a second this year.
You can offload Ceci, and sign a few vets to chase a cup.
But it will not be as good as this team; and their Finals run showed that, if they have depth scoring, they are good. If they don't, they are very beatable. They will be hard pressed to add that depth

My son went to hang out with some friends last night after the Panthers won. He saw some guy walking up to the arena with an Oilers jersey crumpled up in his hands. One can only speculate what he was trying to do. That arena is closed over the summer though.

Others have already commented - but the Oilers have a massive cap problem for next year.
They have to fill 8-9 roster spots with $10 million in cap space - which basically means that they have to fill the roster with guys near minimum.
No Henrique, no Janmark, no Brown, no Fogele, next year (maybe can re sign one of them, but only at a bit of a discount).

Unless you plan on only having a minimum 20 man roster with no spares, you need more than 7 players They have 14 under contract and teams run with 22-23 players. Buyout Campbell and you need 8-9 guys.
In your plan you've now spent $3M on two players and you have $7M to spend on filling out the rest of the roster, whether it's 7 or 9 guys. Including Foegele, who got 20 goals and 40 points and will probably want a raise from 2.75, Janmark, who excelled in the POs and only made $1M And I doubt those guys accept 900K anyway.

Also this is a aging lineup.
I mean Draisaitl will be 29, McDavid 28.
Hyman 33 with a lot of wear due to play
Kane 33,
Hopkins 32, Ryan 37.
Nurse 30, Ekholm 35 Ceci 31, Kulak 31.
They don't have much coming up that's exciting, I mean Holloway doesn't look like a first round draft pick, Boingboing is uninspiring and there's not much on the farm to fill out their bottom 6.
Lets be honest.
The Oilers could have had it all.
They had a relatively easy to path to the finals.
Then when it counted, Draisaitl and McDavid couldn't get the job done.

They Basically have no choice but to be aggressive. It's going to be cup of bust 2.0.
The 2025 1st has to be in play.

Yep, they'll need to find a way to swap Ceci for someone better who makes less money ($3.25M). They'll also need lots of Connor Browns who take a league min + large bonus on one year deals, or $1M Janmarks who play way above their cap hit.
There's also a chance that they have to sign Broberg and Holloway to more than $875k.
The cure is finding someone to take Nurse. That would give them enough breathing room to add quality depth and not just bodies.

They do only need 7 to get to 23 after Broberg and Holloway are qualified. That puts them at 16.

The problem is still that they have no cap space.
Yes, they can load up for one more run next year, and trade the 2025 1st to help - but what are they getting back in return that can help them and that they can still fit in their available cap space.
It would have to be for someone making about $3 million at most who can really move the needle. Is that moving a 2025 1st for?

But that also lowers the cap space available to $8m from $10m.
