That's not how you return an Oilers jersey, you do it on the ice.

Janmark was their best player in the finals. Maybe Skinner is up there.

I know Bouch needs an enormous extension, Drai needs the same, McDavid will need a historical one not long afterwards. Holloway and Broberg are RFA. Their FAs are Brown, Carrick, Foegele, Gagner, Henrique, Janmark, Perry, Desharnai, Stecher and Pickard.
Nuse is making $9.25 for many, many more years and Campbell at $5M for another 3 years.
This was their year where everything aligned perfectly and they fell short. Their bottom 6 is going to get gutted and all their huge guys need big raises. They are so screwed.
|
They absolutely 100% cannot afford Bouchard, Drai, and McDavid Contracts. They can barely afford two of them.
And Bouchard and Drai come up first.
There is a smart thing to do this offseason, which they won't do. Trade Draisaitl.
Basically, they could attempt one more run at the cup next year (with a worse roster than this year - due to cap restraints), and then be absolutely terrible for a while, OR, they can shift gears a bit, maybe be decent most years, but never really good, for quite a while.
Those are the only two options.

Anyone we know, who maybe lives in Kelowna, making a run of the "Canada" Panther logo on a shirt?
I want one.

They have a meager $10M in cap space and need to sign ~11 players.
The Oilers will need to find someone willing to eat the salary on players like Campbell and Kane in exchange for draft picks. A buyout doesn't help enough IMO. They need to fully lose some dead weight contracts if they're going to field a competitive roster moving forward.

The oilers get to run it back next year, which is wild. I thought they'd be more cap constrained, but not until after next season I guess.

Yeah, we're going to have fade at least one more season of this nightmare.
They only have $10 million to replace a bunch of players, but it's all depth. The main cogs are all set to return without raises and they can free up $3.9 million more next season with a Campbell buy out.

Yeah have to get through 1 more year and then we can wrap up the McDavid era. I think next years team is a little weaker in the bottom six. I don’t think they can keep Brown, Forgle, Henrique, Janmark together who were important contributors
But the year after Bouchards and Darisaitls deal will crush them. Drai gets 10 even discounted and Bouchard will be looking for 8. But even with sweetheart deals it’s an extra 5 million in cap hit.

$10M/year for Drai? It's much more likely he is making $14M+ imo. He has been playing on a crazy low contract, he's not going to do that again.

Why does Draisaitl take a 28M discount to stay in Edmonton. Also if Bouchard takes less than Nurse his agent should be fired immediately.

must admit Hyman especially proved me wrong this year, but also will be interesting to see how 31-34 years olds Hyman, RNH, Ekholm and Kane fare next season especially after a prolonged run- reasonable amount of the core
the big 2 should be fine, also only a few in the young and anticipate improvement camp but there are a couple- Skinner, Bouch bomb (maybe) and of course Broberg and Holloway
