We know which scout recommended him at least !
I would be very worried if the scouts on the team that acquired him weren’t high on him though haha

2. I split the trade as a 2nd for retention, and 2nd + Bahl for Markstrom. It's not bad, but it sure makes it seem as though we overpaid for capspace in the Monahan trade.
3. I think this organization is really working hard at trying to develop the next Tanev, or at least a couple of solid stay at home D. I think this plays to Huska's strength of developing D.
4. The Flames defense next season raises more questions than answers. We have a ton of D, but I don't think we can properly slot most of them. Out of the waiver eligible guys I expect:
Bahl - Andersson
Weegar - Miromanov
Kylington - Pachal
Solovyov - Hanley
I was hoping to see a more proven D acquired in free agency, but now I wonder if Andersson is going to get traded at the draft.
5. This will really be a trial by fire for both Wolf and Vladar, hopefully our coaches manage to limit the type of chances they struggle with the most.
6. I wonder if Poirier, Brzustewicz, or our 2024 draft pick force their way onto the team out of camp.
|
Don’t really disagree with much other than to point out Montreal retained almost twice as much for Monahan. I also don’t think two seconds gets you a 1st between 13-25 which is where I think the pick will be.

Yeah, you absolutely want to say "I told you so," but you probably shouldn't since you're wrong...gaslighter.
"And since then he has let in more goals than expectation. I believe he was 34 goals saved above expectation before this in 33 starts, and in the 8 starts since is -1 goals saved above expectation. Again, a massive drop off in play. If he doesn't get it back together by the end of the season you're looking less and less like Schneider to NJD and more and more like Fleury to Chicago." - dgibb10
Also, most Flames fans thought he would be traded with 50% retained.

|
Nah they can trade it still conditionally.
Look at what the Panthers did in the Tkachuk trade:
*Conditions: If the 2025 1st RD pick that Florida sent to Calgary is a lottery pick resulting in Calgary receiving Florida's 2026 1st RD pick instead, then the 2025 4th RD pick that Calgary sent to Florida also slides to 2026.
because of conditions withe the Giroux trade:
*Conditions: If the pick is a top 10 selection, Philadelphia will instead receive Florida's 2025 1st round pick.

Bahl - Weegar (matchup pair)
Kylington - Andersson (scoring / all situations pair)
Poirier - Pachal/Miromanov (sheltered pair)
I hope we go with this next year.

Terrible trade for NJ
Not because of what they gave up
But because they trade for an old inconsistent goalie
He will be more likely bad than good. Even when he is good, he is a proven choker.

Just so you know, what we got is what I figured we would get. I just got shat on for saying that because apparently Markstrom is worth so much more.
I'm just getting back at those folks.
You're not one of the ones who shat on what I said so the comment is not directed at you. Not sure why you felt like you needed to respond.

1) You don't need to be given permission to respond to anything.

You should show your work, and theirs, if you want to take those shots.

Flames are very clearly a bad team right now. I’m hoping there are no veteran UFA signings to help the team be more competitive in the short term.
There are enough veterans on this team that the young players don’t need more leadership. Backlund, Coleman, Kadri, Huberdeau, Rasmus, Weegar. That’s plenty IMO.
Any signing should be based on whether the player could contribute when the Flames will be contender.
I’m not saying tank. This is the team, let it play out more or less as is. And be ready to capitalize on cap space to acquire draft picks and young assets.

Signings are more complicated than that though. If the Flames can sign DeBrusk for 4 years at 5 million a year and subsequently trade Coleman for some good young assets it is probably a good move to make.
