Agree.

The actual probability of coming back from 3-0 is:
  • 0.400% team: 2.6%
  • 0.500% team: 6.3%
  • 0.600% team: 13.0%
  • 0.700% team: 24.0%

Actual historic values are ~3%.

I want the Panther to just win tonight, don't care the score, just win! So I can watch the Oilers, their fans and all those pundits squirm.

Stupid refs. Gary Bettman made sure that Canada's team couldn't win. - Oiler fans, probably.

So hard to choose between cheering for ONE epic 8-point game out of McDingus, just to build the hopes up so they can come crashing back to earth; and cheering for a clean sweep and watching the Panteros raise the cup on the Coiler Logo in the space toilet as soon as possible.

I don't find it difficult at all. I want the Panthers to win every game 10-0 and absolutely crush that team. I don't want them to get a glimmer of hope.

Yeah we’re saying the same thing in the first part, just that teams who won down 3-1 might never have been down 3-0 (because it also includes teams that were down 2-1, for example).

Can this game start already? I hate math.

Yeah, they already had their glimmer of hope by making it to the finals. Who wants to give them another one? That’s just un-Canadian AND un-American.

I am not understanding how anyone can cheer for anything good to happen for Edmonton.

Complete domination and ending this nightmare.

But if a team wins after being down 3-0, then after game 4 they were necessarily down 3-1. That has only happened once, in 1942.

No team that has been down 2-1 and then 3-1 has ever gone on to win the SCF. This is not a reflection of probabilities, it's just a historical fact.

Several of those happened in the years after the 1967 expansion, when all the expansion teams were in one division and the Original Six were in the other. The team that came out of the expansion division had no business being on the same ice with its opponent in the finals.

Checking: The St. Louis Blues won the West division in 1968, 1969, and 1970. All three times, they were then swept in the finals.

The numbers also include the very weird 1988 finals, when the Oilers swept the Bruins in five games. Yes, you read that right. Game 4 had to be called with the score tied 3-3, because intense heat and humidity caused a power failure in the Boston Garden. As a result, the no-good Oilers got three of the four games that actually counted at home.

I think that name was already trademarked by a porn producer.

The only thing that could make the sweep even better, is a jersey throw or two as Bennett and Tkachuk parade the cup around. I’d almost want a tattoo of that!

This is sad. Where’s your Canadian pride? Oilers are a Canadian team and can finally bring the cup back to Canada. Other than maybe the leafs, name a franchise that’s suffered more than Edmonton. The city and the fans need this. And no matter what people on CP, the majority of Canada agrees with me. Oilers are the team of destiny. Personally, I’ve spent my whole life cheering for dud franchises. It ####ing sucks. Sports should be about winning and now I cheer for a winner. And you mean people on CP obsess with more losing. Misery loves company I guess.

Edmonton is a city that needs something, anything positive to happen. It can be a rough place to live, especially in the winter. Calling for fans to toss jerseys and riot? Come on. Be better. mcdavid is one of the greatest hockey players in history, how could anyone cheer against him?

I feel like Wayne Gretzky at the salt lake olympics. The whole world wants us to lose but we’re gonna prove the doubters wrong.

To be fair that is probably true. He's probably best playoff guy I remember since Lemieux which will make it even funnier when they never win a stanley cup with him and mcdavid.
