I'd wager it would most certainly be more than that, the offer before the deadline was more (with retention)

1 for 1 at most. The time for a juicy deal has expired IMO.

If the trade would have gone ahead, NJ would have been banking on the pick being in the 20s. Now that the final standings are becoming more clear, I would say that the value of the NJ pick has increased significantly. Additionally, Markstrom's value has decreased slightly because the Devil's are getting less games from Markstrom, and there may be other desirable alternatives.

I agree. While I really hope a trade for New Jersey’s 2024 first round pick could be made… it’s more likely New Jersey will not want to discuss a trade that involves that pick and would push any trade talks to after July 1st. At that point, maybe New Jersey’s 2025 first round pick could be discussed but I’m thinking their eagerness to trade for Markstrom will have subsided and they’ll have other options to try first before paying any kind of premium.

Along with what Mass_nerder said, I could be wrong but I'm also pretty certain the rumoured proposal was Holtz + 2025 1st, with NJ placing more value on their 2024 1st than their 2025 1st prior to/at the deadline.
I'd be guessing something along the lines of 12th for Markstrom at some retention in that [hopeful] scenario, which I've been dreaming lots about

It was the 2025 1st protected, there was another piece coming from us in that proposal as well but I have never nailed that down. I don't think the Devils will trade that 2024 1st, I could be wrong but I don't think so.

Agree Jerseys 2024 1st pic is a pipe dream
Honestly don’t think flames are picking top 10.
Jersey , Buffalo have tough games remaining. No
Faith Seattle can get wins and Flames have easy games remaining
Compared to other teams. Man hope I’m wrong

Flames haven't had a top 10 pick since 2016, and had only three top 10 picks since 2003 (Dion Phaneuf 9th). Tkachuk, Bennett, and Monahan. Pretty solid group of players.
It's exciting for the organization to get that injection of promising young talent again.

Silly dreamer me, but I say start collecting 2026 1st round picks if you can get them unprotected. If it means you have to make trades with weird conditions on them like the Vegas one, then great.
I doubt that NJ would be inclined to trade their pick this year for Markstrom - that's too much value given Markstrom's age IMO, but if they are desperate enough, then maybe they will. I also think that picks are the cheapest at the trade deadline, but they become overvalued at the draft. If the 2024 1st rounder was ever in play from NJ, I doubt it remains in play given their position.
I would rather find a way to get an unconditional 2026 pick. 3 kicks at the can for McKenna.

Jesse Pulkkinen is an interesting player to look at with the Vancouver pick. Passed in last years draft hes burst into maybe being a late first. I dont think hes there at the Flames 2nd.
6'6 215lbs Dman. Sounds like he has decent skating and hands.

Yeah I mentioned him before, I guess if we get one of Catton or Iginla first it would be a gravy draft, I don't think he'll go late 1st but unless a surprise drops it wouldn't be a bad thing to take him with our second pick, he's basically a Finnish Zadorov but by all accounts a real good teammate and human being.
Apparently he's fairly fluent in 4 languages so he's no dummy either.

Do any of you think Ottawa may choose to forfeit this year's pick if they don't win the lottery? They have the choice of 2024, 2025 or 2026 as a result of the Dadonov debacle. I would imagine they'll want to keep 2026 for the McKenna shot so the question is whether they think they'll be better next season.

It would be a bad signal to their fans if they give up the 2025 pick instead. They were supposed to be better this year. I think they'll keep the '24.

Yeah I can't see them giving up a top pick in the draft, especially as it is a top 10 pick. I still am amazed as to the fact that the Senators have to give up a first round pick, in what seems like a case of the Knights also not doing their due diligence and reading the contract for the player they traded for.
I know that it isn't the most popular thing to do but I do think that if it wasn't the Knights complaining I don't think anything would have been done but they are the golden child of the NHL right now. There are teams that have done much worse things and there hasn't been any indication of them having a first round pick stripped away.

With two KHL/MHL playing Russians firmly entrenched in the top 5 or 10 of this draft, and the Flames obvious trajectory this season, it's no wonder Conroy brought in 3 Russians during the big sell off.
Certainly don't want to skip past these two if they fall to the Flames and their scouts proclaim them to be the BPA because you're worried they won't come over due to having zero Russians on your roster.
Or maybe it was just a coincidence lol
Either way it won't matter because, repeat after me, "The Flames are winning the DL and getting Celebrini".

I have to think they will be better next season with a new head coach. They are in position to get a very good player with their 2024 pick so it makes little sense not to use it.
