I know I’m in the minority but I’m fine with the return. Have not heard if Hanifin is for sure extending with Vegas anyways. We were all told the trade offers for Hanifin were were very underwhelming because of Hanifin’s agent meddling. And this return tells me that it’s likely Tampa and Florida were not offering first round picks. I imagine they were offering prospects which neither of them have very good ones. Vegas must have been the only team stepping up to offer a first round pick. Teams just do not trade quality young guys that are contributing or ready to contribute to a playoff run in exchange for rentals. It just does not seem to happen these days in trades. Plus from looking at the prospects that Vegas has, none of them really entice me as far as high quality prospects so I’m not worried about missing out on them.

I mentioned the other day that as long as the flames got a first round pick for Hanifin, I would be happy so I’m happy.

Would be funny if Vegas fell apart over the next 2 years and the 2026 pick became a top 5 pick in that draft which is supposed to be a big one.

Ducks got a similar if not better return for Adam Henrique than the Flames did for Hanifin... hard to wrap your head around. At least they got a non-conditional 1st round pick 2 years before the flames will likely get to draft. Probably well worth the difference between the 3rd the flames got and the 5th the ducks landed. the 2026 pick is probably better for the flames so here's hoping the knights make another deal

We want the 2026 draft as it’s deeper than the 2025 draft.

2026 draft> 2024 draft >2025 draft

This isn't Hedman or Makar or a first pairing defenceman. This is a second pairing d man on a heater because his contract is up. I'm fine with the return. Spread those eggs into many baskets.

Yeah, I think ideal scenario:

- Vegas uses 25 1st to add
- Vegas beats the Oilers in the first round
- Vegas struggles in 26

Two better picks out of that AND we get to watch the Oilers lose.

Yes that's true, but obviously Chychrun is a better player than Hanifin as well. There were no prospects or players included in that trade.

Can anyone find an example of a rental defenseman being dealt at the deadline for a first rounder+blue chip prospect. It just doesn't happen. Hanifin isn't Rick Nash or Marian Gaborik.

The actual value of the picks being potentially

2026 unprotected 1st (especially if they start to decline)
2025 2nd (if they win a round which is much more likely with them loading up)
Miromanov

Looks a lot better I guess. Just need some good things to happen now

Maybe Hanifin will come back to the Flames after the playoffs

Jesus effing Christ. We got absolutely robbed.
Nobody gets anything extra if those picks slide. The Avs didn’t when their pick from Ottawa slid. Don’t think anyone ever gets anything extra. So Conroy got what everyone else has ever got in that regard.

So, if the pick is Top 10 in 2025, then does 2026 become unprotected?

Same thing if they trade the 2025 pick. Then 2026 is unprotected?

If that is the case, it almost seems like Conroy knows they will be trading that pick.

I’m spiteful. I would have kept Hanifin and cost him $8MM a year for going public on who he would only sign with

Wow, even more now.

A 1st, a 2nd and roster player. Not great but not terrible.

Pundits said RHD were in more demand this year. With coaches taking an increasingly strict approach to the LHD/RHD thing, this just might be the way the league is going.

Sophomore slump for the GM I guess.

I don't know how Flames management convened and said yeah, this looks good. Let's even get a third team involved and help them pay less than half. The knights must be hiring private investigators to gather blackmail on every gm cause otherwise I'm at a loss to explain this.

Conroy valuing this Miromanov kid extremely highly. How do you not hedge the conditions in your favor in any way whatsoever when Vegas gets two conditions on the 1st alone. Like say if they lose in the first round and the conditional 2nd pick becomes a 3rd, then you're happy with a higher positioned 2024 1st round pick. Instead you have conditions that give Vegas the power to screw the deal to their benefit in every which way they want. How does Conroy not get compensated for relinquishing that much control.

Can't imagine how bad the Tampa or Florida offers were.
