McDavid wants money, not championships.
This is the guy who designed a whole skills competition around himself so he could win an extra $1M and hasn't scored a goal since, while his team has floundered.
He'll go to a US market where he's paid massively and can enjoy his life without being bothered all the time.

Pissy, even moreso will go somewhere quiet.

You can look at a guy like Matthews though that is a lot closer to McDavid's career earnings because he pushed the envelop as far as how contracts are being done in the league. There is a reason that McDavid changed agents recently, and it's not because his old agent was being promoted by the Oilers.
Yeah. This.

Mathews' contracts are amazing. I love the way he bets on himself and structures them.

But Connor also seems to know that as soon as he gets hurt or old and loses a step, his effectiveness is greatly diminished. So take the money now.

I always love this stat. Makes me chuckle every time.

I hate McDavid as much as the next guy but him not wanting to win is not true at all.

I think with McDavid it’s more of a realizing he can’t win with where he is vibe. The oilers have 9.8 mill in dead cap next year while holding the 1-2 best players in the league the past 5. Terrible management that hasn’t seemed to learn from their mistakes (look just at goaltending alone for Edmonton) and the ‘cup or bust’ comments make even more sense. Clock is ticking for Edmonton lol.

Can we not do the 'two best players in the league' garbage here? (we get enough of it from the media)

Draisaitl is one of the best offensive players in the league, but his numbers are hugely inflated, playing with McDavid. If he were the #1 C on a team, having to drive his own line, and being the focal point of opponents' defensive strategies (like all other stars are), he would be an 80-100 point player, just like 10-15 other offensive stars.

He is a good player, playing with McDavid - he isn't the 2nd best player in the league. Not even close, IMO.

Agree, it was interesting earlier in the year when Mcdavid was injured or not playing well, pissy Leon was almost invisible. the "two best players" line sounds like something Ron Mclean or Gene Principe would say

Every player wants to win, but at that level there's a difference between how elite champions are mentally.
He doesn't have the Crosby, Jordan, Tiger type "want to win".
He's closer to a Gaudreau wants to win mentality, but he's exceptionally skilled.

I don't see him going to pressure market like Toronto, but we'll see.

To be fair he has had some stretches where he's played really well when McDavid has been out of the lineup and he's probably outplayed McDavid in the playoffs. There's no doubt in my mind he's benefitted a lot from playing with McDavid but he's still a top 10 talent. He's just not the 2nd best player in the league or even 3rd.

As soon as the server left our table, my 5 year old son ripped up his ballot and proclaimed that the Oilers suck. Naturally, his little sister followed suit.

So proud, I nearly shed a tear.

When our kids were all little tykes, we referred to the Oilers as the “stinky butts” for fun. It warms my heart that my eldest is now turning 18 this year and while they aren’t big hockey fans in the slightest, they still refer to the Oil as the “stinky butts” if they walk by and see them playing on the TV. :P

What championships has he won in his career? When he was 14?

Meh. Brown has played 11 more games this season. Markstrom was benched in a fair number.

The two best players in the league play on the Avalanche, anyway.

Pretty sure he's had that vibe since the draft lottery.

If McDavid had real guts he would have Lindros'd the Oilers and became the NHLs greatest villain. That would have been awesome.
