Although, full panic mode will settle in up North if one of Marner or Nylander are traded or not on the roster going into McDavid's last year.

True. Cap will be around 95M, maybe more in 2026-27.
The trick for Treliving is not to overpay the depth players and hope some of the young players pan out enough to fill the lineup. No different then the current makeup of the team. Essentially the 11M Tavares cap hit and some of the 10M in increased cap would go to McDavid. Very doable. He might even take less if the opportunity arose.

Wouldn't that be a dream for Flames fans to watch! McAvi walks for less money to the Leafs. Edmonton would blow the eff up!

I think that is almost a given. You will never hear about it though. Only way he stays in Edmonton is absolute max pay, he would almost 100% go to a better market for less.

Yes he does. He already is by not willing to trade young pieces or draft picks. Connor McDavid will absolutely end up in Toronto.

Also aligns with Panarin's contract coming off their books.

It will be Toronto. McDavid feels about the Leafs how we feel about the Flames. Combine that with the notoriety of possibly being the saviour that comes in and hands them their first cup since 1967 and it is a slam dunk. If someone handed me a million dollars and told me I had to make a sports bet with it I would put every last penny on McDavid signing with Toronto.

I'll never understand why he signed such a long second contract, especially if he's so hellbent on going to the Leafs.

Injury risk...It was $100m guaranteed.
You can look at a guy like Matthews though that is a lot closer to McDavid's career earnings because he pushed the envelop as far as how contracts are being done in the league. There is a reason that McDavid changed agents recently, and it's not because his old agent was being promoted by the Oilers.

That's the thing, if he wanted to be a Leaf so bad he would be one by now. If it was all about the money, the Oilers will be ready to back up the brinks truck whereas the Leafs won't be able to afford the max.
I'm just not convinced he's that into becoming a Leaf, unless he has huge regrets about his last 8 seasons?

Jacob Markstrom has as many points (5) as Connor Brown. He has done that in 11 less games played. E=NG

I know that no one cares about fantasy hockey, but in one of my leagues this season, someone drafted Brown in the 5th round and afterward they were so smug about getting the "biggest sleeper 30 goal scorer".
Hahaha

It's one of those things where he doesn't regret the money he's amassed but likely came to the realization years ago that it was a deal with the devil and he's prepared to get the hell out of there the moment he's played the last game required to fulfill that contract.

What is the downside to making max cap and term and living in a warm market where nobody knows who you are?
...
...yeah. Good luck Edm.
