The thesis of your entire post is revisionist history.
Literally nobody thought Elliott was a disaster when he was acquired.
He was absolutely one of the elite goaltenders in the NHL before Glue Gun tried to destroy his career. Pulling him after one goal 5 minutes in was cruelty that defies explanation. If he's on that short of a leash, just start Johnson.

Have we traded anyone yet? Let’s get this going so we can move on to being disappointed in the returns please.

Lol, I’m trying to vary my metaphors so that I’m not always using the “Smurfs” reference. I actually used Fraggle Rock the other day, lol…

That’s why guys like Mangiapane slip to late rounds and are picked in second year of eligibility. Glad we haven’t traded tanev for nic Robertson for that reason. Hate wasting picks that we use on guys we don’t sign but going safe with small guys (when we already have Pelletier and coronato) behooves the team to find guys like ciona and Parker bell who might put it together. But no more big rig hunter smiths with early picks please.

Out of thanks, but thanks. I agree.

With Topi Ronni in particular, it always felt like they were swinging for the infield. The good news is it seems they shifted away from that particular approach a little bit this past year with their top three picks.

Ronni was an excellent pick, with a high floor. I just wish they had looked into his legal issues prior to selecting him.

You mean to tell me that there was the first consensus in CP history? Literally impossible.

Elliot was never elite. He was a good 1B a few years
He couldn’t carry the workload and broke down in the playoffs
And basically broken , never recovered

If he didn’t let in one of the worst goals in flames history, we’d probably ever talk about him. But it was sooooo bad. And it happened when everyone was already nervous about him.

Friendly reminder we could’ve had Kyrou or DeBrincat, but instead traded for him.

I guess, you can find a few 6’2 forwards who can put the puck in the net but you get up to 6’3 and 6’4, those guys don’t seem to show up in the top 50 of NHL scorers, much more likely to get a guy at 6’0 or under in those spots. You look at Vegas last year, the guys who scored were at or under the league average for forward height. Then they had some grinders who put in some minutes. I guess maybe Vegas succeeded in spite of having most of their scorers being at or under the average forward height.

I hated the trade from the get go. Elliott was never an elite netminder and always a tandem starter. He had great numbers the year before but not over a large sample size.
He was a risk to acquire because he was never a true number 1 and he proved that with his average to poor season in Calgary.

This is gonna sound really weird. But I feel like I know exactly how it would sound if you said that sentence on After Burner. Really appreciate your contributions on this forum and to Flames fans generally.

Someone name the last big guy this organization drafted that was any good or had any offensive skill. David Moss was big but calling him skilled is extremely generous.

Average size is just fine. If you have a team of players 6'1",209lbs (I think that's still average size?) you are fine. Vegas has a large team, IMO. Personally, I would prefer players 6'0" and over. I'm not arguing that anyway, my point is that you can't have too many "small" players.

Big, Skilled guys go very early in the draft.
Are we expecting the Flames to magically find 2nd and 3rd rounders that are big and skilled?
The reason you draft big in those rounds is hoping the skill is developed later. Most of the time it isnt but occasionally you get a late bloomer and a steal.
You can't teach size

Conroy has actually mentioned CP before. I remember he talked about reading it a bit. Andrew ference was a poster here so he would definitely have told the guys from that era about it.
