Would be kind of funny to deal with Boston and not get long rumored Lysell.

I don't find it offensive.
Guy that played on the WJ team and a 1st in 2025 (guessing it's protected if it happens). Take back cap dumps but don't retain enabling you to hold a retention spot that maybe makes the Devils deal go through.
I've always felt the model ...
Pick / Player / Prospect
had a wide range on the player part. Could be a cap dump or could be a player with some intrigue (Kuzmenko), but the 1st and a pretty good prospect is there.
If Hanifin has a Bruin slant that's not a bad deal.

Yeah, it would be pretty good. A 1st rounder and a good young NHL player with middle six upside is enough.
Grzelcyk can be a bit of an adventure. Reading some Bruins forums this year, and it sounds like a lot of fans want him out, but I think there is upside there still and there is no long term commitment. Forbort is decent stop gap to close out the season as well. Both are pending UFAs, so maybe they could be flipped again within the next couple of weeks.

That's a great package. Poitras is a young nhl ready center with some top 6 upside. I still think Bostons future 1sts are abit of wildcard. Would nit be shocked to see it be a late teens pick next year.
Then 2 UFA dman to get us thriugh the season.
Hits alot of boxes.

Poitras
25 1st unprotected
Lysell
Gryzelcyk
Forbort
For a extended and retained Hanifin
Trade Tanev to set market for rental D
Trade Forbort and Gryzelcyk for additional futures on TDL day.

The 1st is good, Poitras is a nice add in, but is overrated, and 2 pending UFA defensemen that we could get late picks for. It is a really underwhelming return for Hanifin.

I would be underwhelmed. Not offended. #### package may have been too strong.

Wouldn't it just make sense to do the deal now, instead of after the game?
Get the welcome back Noah out of the way tonight.
The deal makes no sense for us. 2 players who are UFA at the end of the season?

As said, with the D market waiting for the Tanev shoe to drop having two more pending and experienced UFA D that can fill needs might not be the worse thing to add ahead of the trade deadline.

And yeah Murphy has Boston connections but honestly hasn't broken a ton of news

You could easily flip both Forbot and Not learning to spell his name yet before the deadline.
Or, with GRZA, he’s actually a decent player - no offence, but a 5v5 GA/60 of 1.95 - that’s better than everyone on Calgary’s blue line. And it’s not like Grendel’s minutes are sheltered - he’s the clear #4 with nearly 40 more minutes played than Shattenkirk.
That’s a good rebuild/reach the cap floor signing that won’t cost an arm and a leg.
And Forbort is mean and big - this team needs some of that it’s going to be crewed by tweens.
The 2025 1st is good.
The prize is the 19 year old centre who’s already made the Boston Bruins.

If Conroy isn't getting what he wants now, and if NJ are feeling like Conroy's ask is an overpay at the moment. This deal could 100% get looked at in the offseason again with fresh eyes, and the removal of the trade deadline pressure.
I'm not sure if that ends up being, better, worse or neutral for the Flames on value, but I actually guessing it doesn't end up changing 80%ish of the value on this trade.
|
Seems pretty clear to me that the pressure is actually on NJ this year to get a goalie and make the playoffs. If they don't get Markstrom, they are likely getting someone else.

For a UFA that has limited teams he will sign with it is pretty good. Boston paid a 1st and a couple seconds for Lindholm and I’d take Poitras over a couple of 2nds.

Yeah, it really depends on if Saros is an actual option or not

People can't even spell Hanifin or Vanecek. Please, no Grzelcyk.

True but the NJ GM doesn't know that so he certainly can tell him that those teams are interested, even if they aren't to try and apply pressure. If it works or not is another story.

I'm sure the defensemen are in just for cap dumpnpurposes. I always wince when you re acquire a retread depth d man that didn't really pan out the 1st time through though.
If it's Poitras and a 1st for Hanifin, it's okay. Especially if he is hamstringing you, then it's amazing.
