I hear you, and I probably value effort and heart more than most people, but something about him just feels like he is going to figure it out one day. And if/when he does, he will be a really good player.

These descriptions of Lambert reminds me a lot of Jonathan Drouin… crazy amount of skill but just seems to disappear for long stretches in games. I’m sure there are players like him that put it together and turn into star players and others that turn into something more like Drouin - being a league-min player that gets powerplay time.

Much prefer to swing for the fence than grab a guaranteed solid third liner

I was just grateful to have had a good discussion with Bonded, Roof Daddy, and a few others yesterday without that nonsense.
Didn’t mention anybody by name.
Sorry.

Doesn’t matter what you think of him. They drafted him 2nd overall. They are happy with him. They are a young team. They don’t need to go all in now
|
The Rangers are a young team?
Panarin - 32
Zibenijad - 30
Krieder - 32
Trouba - 29
Shesterkin- 28
Sure they have some decent young pieces but their core is very much in a win now mode they are literally 1st place in the league. I agree that they won’t pay the price of Schneider for Tanev but disagree they don’t need to go all in

Playoff teams like to keep guys like those around.
Rangers: 2024 1st round pick + Gabe Perrault
Avalanche: 2024 1st round pick + Callum Ritchie
Stars: 2024 1st round pick + 2024 2nd round pick + Christian Kyrou
Jets: 2024 1st round pick + 2024 2nd round pick + Brad Lambert
The Rangers and Avalanche prospects that I’m putting into these trades are a higher level prospect IMO than the ones I’m putting in from Dallas and Winnipeg so I don’t include a 2nd round pick with them. For each of these prospects, I just looked at the NHL.com top five prospect rankings within each organization. I picked either the 4th or 5th-ranked top prospect and made sure they weren’t a player projected to make their team this season. Some of these prospects might still be too elite though to be considered in a trade for a Lindholm rental.
|
If we get Perreault and a 1st round pick for 40 games of Lindholm I will put on my Flames jersey and dance a jig in the street.

I would give up a ton for Perrault as he was my favorite prospect in the Flames' range in this past draft.
But I would have concerns over whether he signs with the Flames. That seems to be why he fell to New York.

I thought he was talking about the Devils and Nemec.. not the Rangers and Kakko.

His dad played in Canada, he was even born in Canada and played for Canada at a world championship.

Buffalo is loaded with forward talent. Ostlund, Kulich are NHL ready, Savoie looks really good. Any chance we can pry one away for a signed Hanifin

Easy travel, sick young core, probably overpay a bit to keep him…
Do people just not make “business decisions” anymore?

Clifton and Johnson haven’t worked out for BUF, so I could see them bringing in Hanifin if they were confident they could sign him. I think any of those guys would be available.

^^ No. They make lifestyle choices.
He'll earn a good salary anywhere, but if its a sign and trade he kind of holds those cards.

Markstrom is actually quite consistent. The only real anomaly in his last eight years is last season - his ceiling isn’t quite as high as we’d like to believe, but “inconsistent” isn’t his flaw.

He’s not inconsistent. He’s average.
During those 8 years he has 9,862 saves on 10,833 shots. A .910 SV%. League average is .908. Including backups and EBUGs. Is that even good, let alone special, let alone worth Nemec?

And then the son chose to play for the US WJHC team, that would raise major character issues for me. I would not want any part of him.

I think Markstrom is more highly regarded in NHL circles, like GM's, etc. than we as Flames fans might think.

Why specifically would a player with dual citizenship choosing to play for a country raise character concerns for you?
