A measly 6th? All of a sudden draft picks aren't burning a hole in Tre's pocket?

While it was a third, Vladar has less value today.
He had potential before, but he's been terrible all year. Plus he's signed for next year at too much money.

It's kind of hard to gauge his value and it really comes down to how different pro scouts view his ceiling. Maybe they can get a 3rd round pick back but if they want to get Wolf in the NHL I would settle for a 4th round pick no problem.

Don't disagree that he's worth less, but there is no pressure on the flames to move him. Next season if they are still stuck with his and Markstrom's contracts, on a rebuilding team like the flames that won't be up against the cap, when Wolf outplays him for a spot you bury him in the minors next year before you send him to a competitor for a pick worth less than an NCAA free agent.

Any pick and shedding the cap is a win for Vladar IMO.

Trading a 3rd for a goalie and then flipping him for a 6th a few seasons later isn't a win, it's more like cutting your losses.

Flames should take a flyer on Bjornfot who is on waivers today.
22 years old, 1st round pick from 2019, already has 117 NHL games.
Probably will be nothing but more upside than Oesterle and Desimone and fits the age bracket better

Sunk cost fallacy is a thing that GMs across the league need to just get over. If Vladar is pants and you can get an asset for him and not retain cap, out you go!

Yeah, it's like starting your offer 50 000 below asking to start.
You're expecting to come up, you're just giving yourself room to come up.

Back to Nylander that's an interesting one. Admittedly, he's probably worth that money, on any team. The term is a bit high, but he's been a responsible guy over the years, putting his playoff cowering behind him. I get that Tavares' contract is close to being off the books but the lineup becomes top heavy payroll wise. I'm just not sure what they do to improve their back end in the cap world. Treliving hasn't done anything wrong with this apparently signing, but he's got some navigating to do with his Klingberg and Reeves contracts. I don't think he has it in him to find diamonds in the rough as he likes paying extra for role players.

Not really. He was young and cheap then, now he’s older and more expensive - the latter, thanks to Tre.

I don't know ... some logic?
Not sure he left the team in shambles anyway. I'd say Huberdeau, Sutter and Markstrom's off season had a lot to do with things as well.
