Didn't the Bruins have 3 picks in a row that year? Only hit on 1?

Yup, and Zach Senyshyn was the pick IIRC

And I wouldn't even call Jake DeBrusk a "hit". He's a good 2nd line player, but not much more.

When you consider the fact that Mathew Barzal, Kyle Connor, Thomas Chabot, Joel Eriksson Ek, Brock Boeser, Travis Konecny and Sebastian Aho, were all taken after them, the DeBrusk pick is less impressive.

It’s extra funny because the next three picks are impact players. You don’t even need to dig deep for better players.

The Bruins, in the last 12 years, hit big on Pastrnak and McAvoy, with everything else being not great...yet they still have a crazily successful team.

Edit: Swayman too.

That 2015 first round was a pretty good one even if you take McDavid out of the equation. Almost half the first 30 picks have been quite productive in the NHL.

Well, they got Frederic (over 200 games), Carlo, Grzelcyzk (almost at 400 games), and now Poitras looks pretty good.

what is extra, EXTRA funny is that the Oilers moved the pick that turned into Barzal along with 33rd overall ... for Griffen frigging Reinhart lol.

The next 3 players to be picked after Boston’s three were Matt Barzal, Kyle Connor, and Thomas Chabot. Imagine if they picked those three…

Also in the first round, after their pick: Eriksson-Ek, Boeser, Konecny, and Roslovic.

Do not spend money on goaltending.
Would you spend a 3rd round pick on Vladar after knowing this?

Those numbers include a solid month when the Flames were running around their own zone yelling, ‘Free pucks! Opponents, come and get your free pucks!’ And they haven't improved much since then.

I just took a look at Moneypuck's numbers for GSAx/60. They rate Vladar 75th out of 79 goalies. But you know who is 77th? Dustin Wolf.

Would you trade Wolf away for a 3rd-round pick?

No, he makes league minimum. I have yet to see any evidence that spending money on goaltending leads to fewer goals against.

Pelletier-Kadri-Zary is a line I really want to see. Could be the ideal 2nd line for a few seasons.

I agree, but I also would like to see Pelletier with his old buddy Huberdeau. Maybe energize him a bit…

I like it, one concern... Who plays right wing? Would you risk moving Huberdeau to the right again? Or hope Pelts can figure it out since he's young and not quite established?

Huge difference and you know it.

Wolf is a rookie with a huge pedigree just getting his feet wet. But he has not played well.

Vladar is signed to a relatively high non-expiring contract who has played very bad for quite some time. Likely zero upside.

I thought Pelts played RW on that line? I could be wrong. You’re right though, I wouldn’t want Huby on the right again…

Just finished dinner with an Eastern Conference scout travelling through Calgary. He believes the Flames have signaled to the league they’re open for business and Craig is very active.

The New Jersey Devils have inquired on the availability of Markstrom. Mentioned if they had a choice of proven starters it’s between Markstrom and Gibson. The acquisition cost is steep at the moment but Calgary would consider retention for the right package.

Believe multiple teams have expressed interested in Lindholm as a rental. However the players camp and flames would prefer an extension in place to increase the return for the flames.

Florida Panthers continue to be in on the circle for Noah. It’s believe they would make a strong push to sign him if he gets to UFA. Arizona is still the most engaged however based off other info isn’t interested in signing an extension AZ at this point but plenty of runway here.

Blake Coleman is getting a lot of interest. Teams are interested but so far want a discount… Flames aren’t willing to let him go. He’s been a great leader and role model for the young guys on this roster. Blake’s camp is very happy here.

Andrew Mangiapane maybe looking for a change of address. He’s frustrated that he’s been moved from Backlund and Coleman. ** this hasn’t been confirmed through other sources.

As we inch closer to a return for Jakob Pelletier return (Jan/Feb) I herd Ruzicka will be the odd man out and maybe apart of a deal involving the pending UFAs.

I have received some intel on Oliver Kylington, I won’t comment on the circumstances around his LTIR but there is a significant increase in chance we may get to see him put the flaming C on his chest again…. 2024?

More to come….

I was just saying how I could see the leafs interested in both Coleman and Mangiapane. I get that they want a leader around but everyone should be available.
