You're our biggest rival. No way we're doing you a favor unless we can rape your corpse.

In all seriousness, considering Markstrom is still pretty good and Campbell is a long-term cap dump, I'm not entirely sure that my proposal is that far off. Maybe not McDavid in there, but those 3 picks at least would be required to do that kind of favor.
Careful. I got banned for saying less. Be greatful mods are like nhl refs.

The Flames do have great drafting but Treliving also bled picks his entire tenure and they seem to struggle with their late 1st round picks if I remember that athletic article right. The people who say the Flames only re-tool like to skip over the post Iginla rebuild that Treliving got impatient on.

I don't think it was Treliving TBH. Recall when Burke went to the Leafs he sold ownership on expediting the rebuild and dealt a bunch away to get veterans on the team. He was also here doing the same thing with Treliving. These guys are cut from the same cloth - selling ownership on an ideal they like to hear, than following through with that strategy. It's an overconfidence in their own abilities, and also speaks to the corporate world and how they like to hear things.

I’m now happy there’s a push to the otherwise as there has been an illumination that you need elite players to go far. Being in the muddy middle or the classic “just get in the playoffs and anything can happen!” crew is sorely misguided.
Are we reading the same forum?
Has anyone felt this team is elite?
Moreover the vast majority have said they would support a rebuild and have for a while.
A pretty undeserved pat on the back you are giving yourself

You have to admit that “CP is collectively the same, which happens to be wrong, and I, an individual, am right” is one of the funniest genres of posts on here. As dorky as they come.

Too two years to realize Treliving was a terrible GM and only once he wasn't "our guy" just how bad he was. The next bitter realization is going to be the minor league system and development system is in bad shape and we're about to feel it. Treliving's incompetence hurt the prospect pool and we're going to feel that the most as we hope for a retool only to find there is a gap in the pool where we need those prospects stepping in. Sometimes what looks so obvious for some isn't so obvious for the majority until it starts to unfold in front of their faces.

Part of me wanted the Flames to rebuild after the loss to Dallas in the summer playoffs after the season ended due to COVID. That feeling was amplified after they got the crap kicked out of them in the shortened Canadian Division season. They would have gotten a massive windfall for their much younger core at that point.

But that shortened season resulted in Sutter being hired as coach and then they put up a 114 point season so I figured I was wrong, but hindsight now shows it might have actually been a better option after all. The 114 point season wasn't enough to keep Johnny and Tkachuk in Calgary and with Huberdeau crashing and burning hard, Lindholm and Hanifin also on the verge of leaving this whole thing is falling apart.

The smartest thing they can do now is trade every pending UFA for as many picks as they can, and any player north of 28 that's worth anything also trade for picks. Utilize cap space by retaining, and/or taking on bad contracts to accumulate even more picks. Draft as many as 30 players combined in 2024/25/26 and hope you get some fortune in the draft lottery as well.

Might have something building by 2027/28 and also have a new state of the art arena to help keep your new core together by then.

Briere is doing some kind of elite GMing. Sean Walker and Nick Seeler are in-demand assets???? Who the hell are these guys?

Not really the place for this but I started on CP when I was 25, I’m in my 40’s now. I’ve chilled out a lot in that time. I’m a lot less interested in the arguing about hockey. So it’s easier to just read and not reply.

However I still like this place and it’s easy to get news and updates here. Plus when I do get the odd tidbit about the Flames I enjoy sharing it with the community (pretty sure I broke the Huska as HC here)

Stang pumps the tires of the Flames more than some of the Flames “fans” we have here and I’ve noticed him around just as much when the Oilers are trash.

Terrible taste in hockey teams, but in a tier above every other Oiler fan on here.

No one thought they were a juggernaut but a large percentage were predicting bounce back seasons from everyone, playoffs, and anything can happen if we get in, look at Florida, this team could win a round or two. There were plenty of posters claiming the Flames were to good to rebuild. Last season was all Sutters fault this is a good hockey team. I get it, the "I told you so" posts are annoying, but if this team was leading the division right now, I'm sure this board would be filled with I told you so posts going the other way.

68% of people thought this was a playoff team, 23% felt that they were a contender. As flawed as this Poll is, there are a contingent of fans who felt that this team had an open window for success. That said, I don't think that anyone thinks so anymore.
