What's wrong with him is that he's just not a great prospect.

Three way deal with columbus. Oilers trade broberg and Campbell for merz, flames get broberg and this years first (plus maybe another pick?) for Lindholm

You say that like it's a reason to not do it.

The year they got Toffoli, they one the division and made it to the second round for just the third time in 20 years. By any metric, it was one of the most successful seasons in team history.

You give that group a rental addition the quality of Tyler Toffoli.

The team I could see giving up on assets to get Broberg is Edmonton. Show old Kenny the scouting report and his first round pick might feel a little loose in the pocket.

I don't see how anyone could argue that Toffoli wasn't a good acquisition: a year and a half of solid play and production, and then they recouped most of the assets paid to acquire.

And in hindsight, it's even better:

Out: Heineman, Mesar, Volokhin, 2024 4th
In: Sharangovich, Suniev

I bet they use Broberg with the value that he has left to help alleviate more futures being traded for a team to take on Campbell.

They just missed the playoffs last season mostly due to poor goaltending but he was a big reason they were still contending for the playoffs with 34 goals and 73 points. The trade worked out pretty well in the end.

I don't disagree. I think the value of anyone who can't make the Oilers squad, which may have the worst depth in the league, is not terribly high though.

So Columbus trades a goalie that has a .911 sv percentage this year on awful team and they can get Lindholm along with AHL backup goalie Jack Campbell? Unless both first round picks are from Edmonton that is a terrible deal for Columbus.

Broberg is worth maybe a 3rd round pick so that deal is pretty awful for the Flames too.

Great trade for the Oilers though.

Renaud Lavoie of TVA is reporting that the Flames are in an uphill battle in trading Hanifin, as the only team he's interested in going to is Boston. This has apparently scared some other suitors off.

Why does it seem like every time we have a good asset to trade, they basically tank their value by pulling this kind of ####.

Does Hanifin have a No Movement Clause?

No. 8-team no-trade list. So there are 23 teams not on the list.

I don't know if I believe it. He must have seen what happened to Gaudreau. Not that long ago, Hanifin was willing to sign an extension with the Flames, so there must be other teams he would consider signing with. It would be kind of funny if he was going all in on Boston, but then ended up in Columbus.

No, but if that report is true, it just means we can trade him somewhere else purely as a rental, which will diminish his value substantially, or we can trade him to Boston for whatever they might be willing to pay (marginally more than what we might be offered for Hanifin as a rental).
We basically have to hope that there's a team that thinks they can change his mind

No but I could see that scaring off several teams. The coyotes, for example, were interested in a sign-and-trade. The best way to maximize Hanifin’s value in trade would have been to have him signed long-term for the acquiring team. He can’t stop the flames from trading him but, if this is true that he only wants to sign with Boston, it will mean he is a pure rental for any team trying to acquire him (besides the bruins).
