Close enough I think.
Is Yegor = to the 26th overall pick? look at the 26th overall pick historically I think what he is, as an NHL player, is pretty close to what you'd expect so call that a wash.
We got a 3rd rounder and gave up Emil Heineman and a 5th. I think the Habs end of that is better. but not egregiously so and well worth the service we got from Toffoli in between.

That's a win all day.

You could argue it’s a win because Toffoli had a good year
The rental didn’t work and they definitely didn’t get equal value back.
There is no way Sharangovich is worth a first in any book. It’s not who was picked at that spot. It’s the value of the pick.

That's silly.
So one rental a season works and the rest all don't on average?
The team was in a place where adding a key player was a prudent move. They targeted a player that fit their roster, and paid a rental price for a player that they actually had for a year and a half (2.5 on the contract).
That's a solid move by a GM by any measure.

Treliving was one of the most active GMs in the NHL during his tenure here. Media used to joke about how many trades he was involved in. Anyone faulting him for not pulling off enough trades is out to lunch. You know else didn’t get Stone and Eichel? 30 other NHL GMs.

Yeah, Treliving is very patient (most of he time). That is just the nature of being a GM. There are 30 other GMs out there, and they aren't exactly friends. I would say the Haminoc trade is one that he probably went farther then he wanted, but that happened earlier in his GM career. He most definitely learned from that. He seems to know the other GMs pretty well and that probably goes a long way is helping him read the GM across from him. Things will get away at times, but this is the nature of business where you are trying to get that upper hand from that GM across from you.

Edmonton ruined what little upside Broberg had.
They over hyped him as a prospect, I’m not even sure what value he has.

Broberg is still young and has the talent to figure it out elsewhere. If he isn't traded within a couple more seasons, he likely heads down the Puljujarvi route. Holloway is already down that trajectory.

So what's wrong with Broberg? Other than they passed on Zegras, Caufield, Boldy, etc to draft him.
Is he crap or did they ruin him?

I don’t blame individual players for the defensive nightmare that is the Oilers. Defence, to a certain degree, can be coached. Darryl turned Gudbranson into a $4M player, and he was pretty much waiver fodder before that.
I don’t know a lot about Broberg, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him become an effective NHL’er after he gets free from the crapfest that is Edmonton.

I can see AZ trying to do with him what they did with Valimaki.

Ol' Val has cooled off considerably. Tied with DeSimone in points with twice as many games.

Durzi stole his spot on the PP, unfortunately.

I know most of us are in favor of sell now mode but does it not make sense for CGY to try and get Anthony Duclair? Can't imagine the cost would be to high? I think we should be doing our best to see if we can get Huberdeau going regardless of where we want to place in the standings.

Hard to play defence when it's generally 5 on 2 in your own zone...potentially 5 on 1 if you're paired with Bouchard.

I think Broberg has the tools and talent to flourish if given a new lease on life. Huska has a history of working well with young D, so I would definitely take him. Holloway is in the exact same boat IMO.
