I think the flames will regret losing Zadorov unless they get something significant back.
Nobody wants a third round pick more than Zadorov.

Everyone wants a third round pick over a 6 year $5.5M contract for Zadorov.

To be fair Z is easily a top 4 D man based on his last 2 years performance.
He’d even slot in top 2 on some teams.

I’d rather pay Zadorov a 6x5 than pay Hanifin that same money, and that’s what Conroy is going to end up doing, just watch.

Let the guy who wants to be a Flame walk and sign the guy who wanted out last year who’s been absolutely brutal all year to the big extension.

It isn’t too hard to see what’s happening.

They were clearly in negotiations with Hanifin and Lindholm and got pretty close.
Edwards saw the debacle at Commonwealth and said what the hell are we doing here? Extensions put on hold.
Zadorov was always a lesser priority than those two so now it’s clearthere’s not going to be much happening for him at all extension wise.

IMO Conroy was inclined to build around his players but his boss told him otherwise. He’s trying to see if the team can perform better in the next few weeks before he goes full on sell off. He needs Zadorov around for that ideally, otherwise that bottom pair is bad and they are really exposed in case of injury.

Zadorov may have miscalculated that he could build a better resume on another club but presumably the rumors we hear about interested teams are coming from his camp and reflect places where he thinks he will get more icetime.

I see few negatives here for the Flames. Let other teams come calling on Zadorov, meanwhile let the guy continue to focus on improving his value for free agency.

How so? He's on an expiring contract and not re-signed for next season. Other teams know that he could be had in a trade. Conroy doesn't have to trade him until the TDL regardless of Zadorov's wishes. Big Z is looking for a big contract so he'll be motivated to play well in order to maximize that potential even if he's not traded prior to the TDL. His saying he wants out doesn't affect the market.

No, tell them the truth. Better yet, don't even return their phone calls. Who cares if they want to be here or not? They can go be on a 50 goal pace for some real contender. We'd rather have healthy scratch castoffs and delude ourselves into thinking this is good asset management.

Outside of this years San Jose team, and I am not sure he even makes it in that one, which team is he close to a top pairing guy???? Only teams he has a chance to be top 4 are non-playoff teams. He couldn't even crack the top 4 of the non-playoff Flames last year.

I like Zadorov, he seems like a great guy but if he plays in your top 4 you are in trouble and not competing for anything.

How would you know?

We haven't seen it.

He's only played 18% of his ice time against elite competition over the last several years.

So sure maybe he could be a top four defenseman and the Flames are holding him back.

Or maybe he's just not a top four defenseman, and Sutter and Huska know it.

I guess it's different when it's a pending UFA, but if I always feel GM's look down on players/agents that pull stunts like this. I find it unprofessional, they could have kept it internal.

Would rather give Z the contract if were going into a rebuild. Sell the guys who are out there ####ing the dog like Hanifin. Z has fire in him and plays hard for the team (only 28 too) he's a good guy to keep around to set a precedent for the youngsters we want to nurture.

I'd rather not have another terrible long term contract. They can sign good veteran guys on cheap contracts

I think it’s pretty obvious what’s going on here. He just grew tired of Danielle Smith like the rest of us and wants out.

Anyone who does not want to be in Calgary, see ya later. Let’s get what we can for them. The young guns on this roster are out playing the vets and it’s not even close.

Is the guy who wants to be a Flame the guy who has asked for a trade and had his agent talking about leaving on twitter?

Based on what? If he played Hanifins minutes and competition you may have a different take.

Only after asking for an extension.
Flames won’t commit so he wants out, can’t fault him for that.

Noah just wanted out cause his boys left.
