I enjoyed Zads time here, but always expected him to be traded this season. Easily worth a 2nd rounder maybe gets more depending on how supply demand shapes up.

So people would rather have a 3rd round pick (which the chances of that player playing in the NHL is slim. Than a big, fast, good skating player who can hit like a train. If we are rebuilding then you still need to get to the lower end of the cap. You still need some vets to teach the young players. I think the flames will regret losing Zadorov unless they get something significant back.

Big Z is probably my favourite player on the team. I respect his courage to speak his mind. I’ll be disappointed if he leaves. You’d think they’d want more guys like that sticking around. But maybe they want Hanifin to resign more than they want Zadorov. Or he’s asking for too much. Or Z has decided he wants to go to a better team.

Who knows. But I think whatever the reason it’s disappointing.

But you're right, having Conroy slam the brakes on a Hanifin extension, then having that leak to the media is a work of genius. Now we have Hanifin, Lindholm, Tanev, Zadorov, etc. most of which are at o near lows in terms of trade value heading to UFA. I'm sure Conroy will get a real haul of assets for them.
So, you think that other GMs won't be able to put two and two together when the Flames are sitting at the bottom of the standings? If they were off to a great start than I could kind of buy what you are selling.

You do know agents exist right and that their job is to maximize the contract value of their clients. Is Conroy supposed to muzzle the agents as well?

It is what it is, the Flames suck and have a lot of UFAs. The smart thing was trading some of them last deadline but that didn't happen and so here we are.

So, if I understand this correctly 2 days ago he wanted to sign a multi-year extension and now he wants a trade? Posturing from his agent? I hate when things like this go public, it always decreases value.

Conroy is pissed at Milstein and is going to call him and rip him apart. As of 2 days ago Z wanted to re-sign for 6 years for “a lot”. Conroy isn’t going to rush this and will do it on his terms as Zadorov isn’t a good enough player to have demands like this.

Not trying to be an “insiderrr” but I like to share when I get interesting tidbits.
The scariest part of this rumour to me is the "6 years for a lot". If that was what's close then I'm ecstatic that Zadorov is forcing a trade. And that's coming from someone that loves watching him and what he brings to the team.

You can't be paying a 3rd pairing D-man that struggles when promoted $5+mill/6 years. That's a disaster for cap management.

If that player doesn't want to be here 100% yes I want the 3rd round pick instead.

I don't think Zad's value decreases at all with a trade request. He is what he is as a player, he's a pending UFA and Calgary is at the bottom of the league. Any GM can put 2 and 2 together and know he is available with or without the trade request.

The agent can try to pressure Conroy for a trade but Conroy hold the cards on when a deal happens, and a deal only happens when the return is right. That hasn't changed at all.

He’s talked about wanting a long term deal
Which makes sense. This is the most important contract he will sign
I hope he gets it
Just not here

Probably looking for a contract like Parayko which would be a disaster.

Even if they're not? Do you think the players and agents might not figure it out on their own when contracts aren't offered? Maybe they'd appreciate the club being transparent with them.
Especially if a quarter of your roster is pending UFAs. Probably advisable to re-sign some of them? Not all, some.

But you're right, having Conroy slam the brakes on a Hanifin extension, then having that leak to the media is a work of genius.

Do you have a source for where the leak came from? Can Conroy somehow keep the agents from leaking it?

The market for the UFA's will be determined by the # of buyers out there and how motivated they are for these players that the Flames have on offer. Whether it is Zadorov stating he wants to leave or the rest of them being unsigned, all it does is reduce the # of teams in the bidding by one - the Calgary Flames.

I have a hard time believing that GMs around the NHL are shocked by this news at all. It is likely the agent already spread the news around people in the know already and even if he didn't it isn't shocking that an older, upcoming UFA on a team in the bottom 5 of the league that missed the play-off the year before wants a trade.

As much as this (again) solidifies Calgary is an absolute festering hole to play in, can it be, can it really be, that the flames for once sell a player at a relative high point. We know they will fata this up, but for now I can pretend they won’t.

Yeah no ...

He's a very valuable bottom half of a roster hockey player. He can move up in a pinch and take on more minutes and a bigger role.

I'd say at $4M per 32 teams would invest in him.

That's the deal Toronto would need for cap reasons, but Flames should get more. Klingbergs is a boat anchor and should have a 2nd rounder at least attached. Z is probably worth a first.

Klinger and a first and a second seems more fair.

I don’t get some posters on this forum. If Z wants 6x6 then he can find that elsewhere. He’s not a top four in my eyes. I’m also glad Conroy seems more patient and thoughtful than some here including his players. See how things go. His only deadline is the trade deadline. If Z wants a long term contract in the summer then he’d better show up with a good attitude the rest of the year. Not saying he won’t but there is no incentive on Conroy to move quicker because it is now public.
