Premium subscriptions. We can have a fancy icon to identify paying contributors.

Having my second spell of phantosmia in the last year. It smells like someone is smoking a cigarette in the same room as me. Last time it lasted about two weeks. So weird and annoying.

Yeah my tolerance is shrinking quickly. I got maybe 2 more days in me before I’m just out that’s how much I hate them.

I'm using Brave and so far having good experience with it. But if these ads make it through Brave I won't be coming here anymore. It's the equivalent of someone grabbing my phone from me and screaming about Koodo or a credit card company in my ear

Serious question, is there a way to donate to the site that might mitigate these annoying ads? Not sure if post #10941 was sarcastic but this is the exact arrangement on another forum I use.

If it's as bad as people are saying then I bet there's no way photon doesn't dial it back. He did say he's just testing stuff

If we are serious about this, we need to go to the city and the province to get them to chip in. If we can get a Flames Arena deal, I think we could then scrounge up $10 or so for the rest of it. Anyone here got Murray on speed dial? We need his negotiating team.

So of course I get pulled over and ticketed, because I lost track of how long I had. Can't really afford to pay this stupid thing, but I can't think of what I'd argue to try and refute it.
Yeah it's BS, I bet they've made a killing off that the past year or two. Both my S.O. at the time and I got tickets for that last year within a week of each other. We both got it reduced 25% due to simply explaining what you said happened to yourself as well: province changed it & not used to this new system.

I always try to get tickets reduced the odd time it's happened over my life. For ones I wasn't able to get thrown out entirely, cutting the ticket in half seemed to be the norm, so only getting 25% knocked off was disappointing. I suspect that may be the new norm going forward. But it's better than nothing.

Did anyone mention Richmond Road Registry?

Do registrations online, limited to one year renewals but you don't have to physically go in and they remind you in advance of expiry every year.

Yeah I did that at a downtown location as well, I'm all set up for auto renewals now after that. I'm sure the "I didn't know" excuse has a time limit on it. But I bet that window is still open for now.

On the flip side, do you get 8.3% off your renewal for every month you run expired tags? I seem to remember they charged me for a full year when mine lapsed for over a month.

I ran the gauntlet of getting ticketed or towed, why should I have to pay for registration I didn’t have?

I have never heard the term phantosmia before, but in looking up the meaning, I am sure I suffered from it several years ago after a long flight to Chile. For a couple of weeks, while I was down there and shortly afterward, I had this burnt smell sensation that seemed really weird. I assumed that it had something to do with what I had experienced on the plane. However, I see it could be due to other factors, most likely the stress of the trip.

I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but does anyone know how to attract magpies?

Live downtown and the pigeons are such a nuisance on my balcony. Lately I've got what looks like a mated pair, and they leave SUCH a mess. I clean it every weekend but if you saw it right now, you'd think I hadn't done it in months. The male one is massive, its like the rooster that fought Little Jerry, and his "leavings" more resemble a dog's it's so big. Disgusting.

Had a magpie land on my balcony the other day, think he was hunting for pigeons. I would really like to befriend him...

Suet, table scraps of meat or bits of the meat, raw, before you cook it. You can put down tins of cat and/or dog food as well. They don't like hanging feeders, so a platform feeder is the better choice but they are used to feeding off the ground, so you could just put the food out on the balcony floor.

We had a screechy Merlin move in 2 years ago and we chased it off this year, by attracting crows, as Merlins won't nest or stick around an area long, if there are crows around. We just tossed out whole peanuts in the shell - a few magpies would grab a peanut here and there over the summer but nothing regular.

I’ve heard if you take one out with a well timed swing of a broom the mate won’t come back to the patio.

We had a pigeon problem when we lived in the Marda Loop area. Getting a fake owl to put on your deck helps although the pigeons can realize it is fake after a while and return.

Weird... I've been getting this occasionally when I see someone smoking a cigarette on TV or in a movie. Not 100% of the time, and no other smells... Google says potential brain tumour... great.

Yeah I bought a fake crow Halloween decoration at Dollarama last year I put up there that surprisingly worked really well...for a while. They eventually figured it out and started attacking it and defacating on it, it actually got better when I took it down. Maybe I'll try an owl this time...

People seem to love it including dates, I want it to look inviting. Plus the pigeons seem to just hang out on the balcony itself, so spikes probably wouldn't deter too much sadly.

Thanks for all the replies by the way, I don't want to quote them all but I see them. Good call about the meat, I will definitely try that! The food tips are super helpful, definitely getting peanuts. Yeah I always chase them away when I see them. But on weekdays I'm gone all day, I think that's when they strike. They're always one step ahead!

It's too bad as I love animals and they make kind of cute noises, it's just their anuses I despise. Just put on a diaper and you can hang out here all day, I don't care. But alas..
