Yeah...thats a tough spot.
I can imagine looking at his statements at what he pays to have the POS machine on his desk ought to really chap the owner's ass.
But they kind of have you between an unstoppable force and an immovable object.
Damned POS companies...

Of course you understand the physics. What with all those helicopter rides you are always taking.
On a side note, did you ever work for Bre-X?

Ok. First, I assumed 790 years old.
Second, you know the bre-x geologist "fell" out of a helicopter in south america? Hence the joke. Whoosh.
Third, I must be way older than I thought.

That’s one hell of an alibi. You’ve clearly been playing 5D chess since before that was even a saying. We’re on to you now though Locke.

Woosh indeed. I know nothing of this event.
Helicopters man...leave them to the Professionals.

Speed here is limited by the at-level road crossings on most of our highways. Interstates are awesome, legal 130km/h speed limits because no one is going to cross in front of you and wipe you out.

Conversely...I would contend that I am among the most honest people on this board. I have no anonymity.
The number of people around here who know exactly who I am is a little startling.
Looking at you iggy...and huntingwhale...amongst hundreds of others...

So...I deal with a great many people from all walks of life, a POS machine is a necessity. Lots of people pay by debit, which is fine, most pay with Credit which...as a small merchant sucks for me because those bloodsucking bastard Credit Card companies rake me over the coals on fees and charges, but everyone wants their 'Points.'
But...since the advent of COVID and much more remote work, I've probably seen the money going through my POS drop from about 75% of my revenue to around 30%.
Many, many people have switched to other forms of payment, obviously and most notably E-Transfers, which, for a small/Medium merchant is absolutely fantastic.
But then the Merchant Services Bastards start prowling around..."where are all our fees?"
Well you get fees as a percentage of revenue through the POS machine, if I get paid by E-Transfer you're s*** outta luck. I'm crying tears for you, ya vulture bastards!
This is turning into more of a rant now, but seriously...screw those guys. I get at least 3 calls a week.
"Switch to us and we'll lower your fees!! Super swearsies!!"
Get. Lost.

Can you blame it? It’s called a POS!

I know exactly what you mean! In some ways it makes this a better place when there’s a loss of anonymity and in others it’s worse.

I'm planning on moving to France for a year. So I'm taking French and it's stressful, especially with how busy my life is in general. Class tonight has been changed to a sewing workshop with a francophone society to make poppies. Like, really? I'm not paying tuition to sew for you. It reminds me of that scene in Happy Gilmore where arts and crafts got extended.

That sounds amazing... The moving to France part, not the crafting.

Well there's a gear grinder for today. I had just moved to Calgary and was in my late 20's. Now I feel old.

I'm fluent in French...as...iggy_oi and huntingwhale can attest...dude you will LOVE it.
Going to Tahiti on my Honeymoon? I've been to France 3 times, I love knowing French. The only place that French sucks is Quebec because...I dont know what they call that, but its not 'French.'
I've never had a problem in France, no problems in Tahiti, even North Africa it was passable, but in Quebec? Huh?

The last time I renewed my registration, I picked the two year option, so I would be able to skip a trip a year later. The province also stopped sending out reminders to get a new registration.
So of course I get pulled over and ticketed, because I lost track of how long I had. Can't really afford to pay this stupid thing, but I can't think of what I'd argue to try and refute it.

Just tell them you’re not used to the new system and forgot. They’d probably reduce it.
