Exactly how Sutter described what he was doing a year ago when we played EDM.

Think that this person has ever taken a moment and thought...hey, I love everything Flames no matter what, so if they rebuild, I'm going to love that too. It's kinda win win.

Dude, a couple of years ago the poll on this site was in favour of Treliving being fired.

Too be fair, Weegar still has trade value even on his contract. He’s one of the handful of players on the team who actually seems to give a damn

I'm on record in 2019 of wanting him gone when he signed Chucky to a walk away contract and when he let Johnny walk for nothing I offered to drive him to his dads house in Toronto beside my car on a sled, this was before the stupid signings and before he was named GM of the Leafs, he screwed this franchise for years.

People think it was Huberdeau and Kadri but I don't think it was, those guys had long term left and were untradeable , don't think it was them they were unhappy but couldn't threaten to leave.
It was Backlund, Lindholm, Hanifin, Tanev, as the key pieces that the organization wanted an opportunity to keep by firing Sutter. A year after losing Gaudreau and Tkachuk.
The team fired Sutter to stop losing any talented players that they had. Because even if Sutter wasn't the problem on ice, he certainly was a huge part of it off ice.

Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman, and Huberdeau-Kadri-Coronato were the only lines that did anything. The Hunt-Lindholm-Dube line was caved in at 5v5 as expected, with 9.5% Corsi for.
I still can't get over the parallels between the coaches making unnecessary line changes after a handful of games these past two seasons.
First 5 games: 2-2-1, Got cratered against Winnipeg but won after the Huberdeau-Lindholm-Mangiapane line was put together in the 3rd, Rightfully changed to those lines but looked good and were building chemistry the next 4 games. In the 4 games with 10-28-88 as a line they had 65% high danger and 58% xGF.
Next 4 games: 0-4-0, look absolutley lost at all times and cratered in a couple games. Outscored 11-3 at 5v5, 48% High Danger, 52%xGF
The solution is easy go back to these lines! Maybe just flip Sharangovich, Coronato, and Dube, Dube has been a tire fire defensively all season (and last).

The lines up to yesterday at least were controlling play:
Mangiapane-Lindholm-Huberdeau: 73.3% HDCF, 58.2% xGF, 60% GF (3-2), 1.024 PDO
Ruzikca- Kadri - Dube: 66.7% HDCF, 60.3% xGF, 50% GF (2-2), .973 PDO
Coleman-Backlund-Coronato: 70% HDCF, 59.2% xGF, 25% GF (1-3), .886 PDO
Greer - Sharangovich - Duehr: 64.7% HDCF, 61.5% xGF, 33% GF (1-2), .886 PDO
Overall those lines were somewhat working at driving play at least, the top 2 lines had been producing, and all three lines were above 58% xGF. The 3rd and 4th line were both under a .900 PDO which was hurting them, but both looked good otherwise and were just struggling to finish.
Absolutely no reason to overreact and change all the lines yesterday, with no practice time between games before an afternoon game. Terrible decision by the coaches.
|
Hopefully Ruzicka is ready to go next game, I'd like to see:
Huberdeau-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Coleman-Backlund-Sharangovich
Ruzicka - Kadri - Coronato
Greer - Dube - Duehr (even better would be Dube-Zary-Duehr)

The Wild bought out those contracts in part to pay Marc Andre Fleury on a team that is not a Cup contender. I would prefer the Flames keep these contracts as long as possible and accumulate picks and prospects. Huberdeau should be here another 4 years after this minimum, anything else and you might as well write off the 2030’s too.

Of course you did! People dislike negativity, even on the internet. You are actually surprised and wounded and apparently looking for validation or some kind of apology?!
This forum is one of the safest spaces on the internet, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

Leave it to Gullfoss to ruin every single thread turning everything into Sutter.
The obsession is super creepy at this point.

Trade: Lindholm, Markstorm, Tanev, Coleman, Dube, Maybe Hanifin... Hanifin could be re-signed because of his age, and we'll still need to hit the cap floor. Start selling, it's the only thing that can salvage this mess... at least a rebuild is exciting.

This team is just the same as last years team except they don’t work as hard and therefore even easier to play against.

That's a rather sad pot shot to take.
The Panthers are a really good team and fun to watch. Zito has done a great job with their core, crown jewel being the Tkachuk trade. Almost everyone thought Treliving took him to the cleaners and instead he looks to have come out massively on top. That's good GMing, doing stuff that isn't obvious. Unlike the armchair GMing that Treliving did in Calgary ("Hey I need a top six RW and here's this big name, over the hill James Neal, perfect fit!!!!!"). When it came to team building, chemistry and finding players that fit, Treliving was a bottom of the barrel GM in this league and screwed this team over big time by creating a steaming pile of misfits.
So yeah "double down" on Panthers not winning with their core if that makes you feel better about the Flames situation. But they are actually really good compared to this mess Treliving left.

They had RAA there, and chose to show Nickelback during the intermission??!?
This truly is the darkest timeline...

I am starting to pine for Mark Giordano. I find myself asking what he would have done with Kane running around hitting guys from behind?
My answer is - probably eaten a bunch of punches. But he would have showed up, and he would have protected his teammates.
I think about Iginla - and he would have absolutely mopped the floor with Kane, and probably scored 2 goals while he was at it.
Even Matthew Tkachuck would have run his mouth and probably looked to catch Kane with his head down.
There was just no pushback from the Flames at all last night. It's ok to suck. But don't suck and be soft at the same time.

Hunt at one point was Nurse's punching bag. Sure, we got a PP out of it but no one really batted an eye.
