Yeah that's my take. I am assuming that during his time away from the NHL that he may have had some counselling on how to better assimilate with players and different personalities in a locker room and either this was a suggestion or he came up with it himself with good intentions. Whether it be poor implementation or him still having a lot to learn about dealing with people, things didn't work out as intended. Not ideal but I don't think this is anything like what the podcast guys are trying to spin it into.

Well, as you can see, that wasn’t actually enough to trigger an investigation and it was information from the actual team that brought the investigation, which was my point.

Based on the information that has been discovered and percolated to the surface in the last 48 hours, I think there's a chance Babcock's job could be in question... I'm not reporting or predicting it's going to happen, but there's a chance that happens."
@DarrenDreger on whether Mike Babcock's job status is in question moving forward.

Did you read his comments? He doesn’t have any problem with Babcock’s request and he loves living in Columbus.

Just fire him already. You can’t tell me out of all the possible people (I mean outside of the other 31 coaches already employed) that there is nobody else better suited for this job.
How about all the likely very, very good coaches all over the AHL. Go get a new coach already and be done with the circus. Call Gallant or Boudreau or promote an assistant. There is no way you’re doing anything special with Babcock and only risking your team’s reputation.

He asked players to share pictures in Toronto and Detroit as well. This isn’t something he just started doing.
The NHLPA is asking players from those teams if it bothered them. None of them spoke out at the time, so who knows.

That would be a crazy expensive decision as they would have to pay Babcock his whole contract.
Plus, as much as we might not have agreed with the decision the hockey people clearly thought that Babcock was the best choice for the job, likely thought he was by far the best choice because if it was close you would think they would have gone with the guy they felt was equally as good with less baggage.
With the limited knowledge that we have now firing Babcock from the Columbus perspective would be crazy at this point.

The expensive decision was hiring him in the first place, which was dumb at the time and looks egregiously stupid now. If you’re a billionaire owner of a NHL club I think you kind of have to roll with the punches on expensive coaching and making moves if necessary.
How expensive is it to be lambasted on social media for being idiots?

Yeah but given why he was fired from Toronto I would have expected him to make some changes to the way he does things rather than go right back to what he was doing before and expecting different results. If some of the young players felt uncomfortable about the whole thing it's a problem and I would have expected him to be avoiding anything that could be misconstrued or make a player feel uncomfortable given the microscope he was going to be under. I always knew he had Elon Musk levels of narcissism but I thought he was a little smarter than this.

I think we have to find out the fallout from all of this before making the judgement that it looks worse than it did when they hired him. Much of the "outrage" seems to be based on Mike Babcock's past rather than what he actually did, which is still very much up in the air.
I would think getting lambasted on social media is a pretty cheap almost zero cost to the owners.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I wonder if there is some sort of out clause in the contract for a case like this for a guy with Babcock's history? A one strike rule.

Listening to Whit, the one thing you can be 1000% sure of is he's not reading some PR statement or something prepared by a lawyer, etc. He's just out there putting himself on the line and speaking on his own. I've watched/listened to these guys for a bit, and you can tell they're good people (or at the very least not mean-spirited people with agendas). Like, yeah they swear and tell jokes and their stories from back in the day and straight up crazy etc, but they're not liars. They're not evil people trying to stir #### up. I believe them long before I'll believe some PR statement released by a team on social media.
Like he said too, mentioning a name wasn't smart cause now you're literally giving the team an easy way to shoot this down... just get the guy to say it isn't true. Or maybe the team has nothing to do with that guy's response and maybe he's just worried that if he corroborates, and they still don't fire Babcock, now he's in the doghouse all season with an a**h*** for a coach. That's potentially something you don't come back from.
Anyway, these guys are pretty huge in terms of media clout. From all reports they've worked hard at it too, for a lot of years, to get where they are. I can't see them wanting to risk everything on Mike Babcock.

Wonder how many player will be labelled as crybabies like they did with the Flames when they spoke up about abuse.

And thats why guys like him and Sutter should never have been brought back in the first place. They don't learn and change they keep doing things the same way.
I have a feeling coach Q will have similar issues if he comes back but it doesn't sound like he is abusive the way the other guys are but what he did should keep him out of the league for good.
Jarmo should get the boot as well.

Sounds like the PA were happy with CLB initial response to the SpittinChiclets report and weren't going to touch it, but then they got calls from younger players and then the PA launched their investigation.
IMO, Babcock won't coach another game in the NHL. Dude was on thin ice as it was, don't think they will grant any leeway with him.

I listened to this too. I can't stand these guys (just not my thing) but they've played hockey at its highest level and are clearly tired of how teams are coached by toxic people/culture.
I hope some young ahole minor-hockey coach somewhere sees what's going on, what happens when you act like a Mike Babcock, and reconsiders.
While I don't agree with how Bissonnette and Whitney are going about this, I do respect the passion/intent.
