And no one would notice if they ran 9 forwards and 9 D. Just different bodies rarely leaving the bench.

I've heard (I think Gregor said this on DFO Rundown once) Staios game too as a possible replacement.

That was the speculation before his buddy bought the Senators.
He could easily end up as their GM, once the sale is complete.

Jackson should pay McDavid a percentage. McDavid was practically his agent here.

Sure feels like a desperate move to keep a generational player to have an unsuccessful career.

Plus Jackson is quite familiar with the Oilers level of success based on his previous work with the 2006-2010 Leafs Dynasty.
I figured they would go for another Leaf retread this year, but I didn’t expect it to be over a decade old.

I always wonder why people are so concerned about McDavid and Draisaitl re-signing in Edmonton.
I think...'of course they will.'
You've got the two highest scoring players in the League and its gotten you absolutely nowhere.
"Oh no! They might leave?"
Who else wants them? I wouldnt pay top-dollar for points that dont get me anywhere.

Plus Draisaitl will be 29 (turning 30 that Oct) when he signs. So a 30 yr old Draisaitl for 8 yrs at 15 mil. Plus a 29 yr old turning 30 McDavid for 8 years at 17 mil when he signs. They will be the 2023-2024 Penguins before they know it, minus the cups.

Yes. Exactly.
And look....there is nothing wrong with that...more or less. The only problem is that they havent won anything.
If I was a Chicago fan and had Kane and Toews eating huge chunks of my Cap I'd swill my beer and smile like an idiot....because those guys brought home 3 Cups.
Thats the difference.
They want to pay not only ageing Wonder Twins....these are guys who you are running ragged at ~30 minutes a night, at some point thats going to come home to roost. You want to pay them top dollar in their twilight years then be my guest.

Why on earth would either of them stay? I don't understand the thought process. They could go to just about any city in the NHL and get their money. OR... stay in Edmonton, with no record of success and little chance of success and get roughly the same money. If they want to win, go somewhere that is close to winning. If they want the JG plan, they can go somewhere that no one knows their names and rake in the cash and enjoy life. Bizarre, they would even consider re-signing.

Hope they stay. It’s fun watching them navigate the salary cap and just wait till their next big deals. Not winning a cup is more painful when you’re competitive and expected to by the media and half the hockey world.

Yeah I prefer the known quantity of McDrai (but aging) and more underwhelming depth to them getting king's ransoms for those players and some of those assets panning out, along with a better structured cap situation.
A penguins-like slow death without the cups would be sublime.
