Dmen should be asking for a raise the way those guys backcheck.

They are, but that's the problem.
As a defenseman, Bouchard generally plays behind his how blue line, so he doesn't really get to play with McDavid.

Plus wouldn't they have to waive the player not on the roster? Which would be either Pederson or Lavoie. It won't be Lavoie because he'd be grabbed up. So they will pay a guy $775K to play in the AHL.
Oilers run 11 forwards and 7 D under Woodcroft pretty often so they have that option to buy time for a callup if one of their 12 forwards gets injured.

I don't see much concern with waiving either of Pederson/Lavoie. I guess Lavoie might be claimed but every team has a bunch of guys like that at the end of the roster to start the year.

Klim Kostin went through waivers unclaimed last year as an example.

I think more of an issue or something look at is if a player like Borgault makes it out of camp, will his extra cap and bonuses keep him down. Same with Broberg, if he is the 7th Dman there are cap and bonus considerations. If he makes it over one of those min league players currently on the roster according to cap friendly, there goes another 100k.

Without a doubt it will be interesting to see what Bouchard comes in at. It potentially could be a one or 2 year bridge, to get him at a low hit for the remainder of the McDavid era.

Lavoie will easily clear waivers.

Everything is lining up for Bouchard to get a 1-year deal. This is what I'm hoping for as it will be much more expensive next summer to sign him.

This will be the last shot for Edmonton for awhile and right now they are not better than last year.

Campbell buyout still might be in play too.

Can players have a "Waivers anywhere but Edmonton" clause? They should.

So weird. And then McD gets his own section of that press release:

Quote:
said McDavid. "I'm excited about this next chapter for me and to continue to be represented by Wasserman on and off the ice, with Judd Moldaver as my agent and Adam Phillips, my longtime manager, handling day-to-day matters."
“I’ll be fine everyone! I have a new agent AND a minion for me!”

I see Staples was talking about insiders saying that Draisaitl and McDavid are 75% assured of resigning in Edmonton long term.

So, is Holland running the show or is it Jackson? If Holland is in control, does this make Jackson like an assistant GM with a bigger title?

Holland has one year remaining on his contract and been speculated he is close to retiring. Jackson may be the replacement.

Do they think he will have special influence over McDavid and therefore a re-signing is assured?

There is no chance that they will not be throwing everything at keeping him. His marketing value alone is worth any cost.
