We don't have many youngsters who can fill the need for size and toughness, other than Klapka and Pospisil- who is constantly on the IR. I'm pulling for Gilbert to show well in camp.

Don't know about the other guys but White was pretty bad with the Panthers last year. Like fourth line bad. And he has gone through quite a bit of injuries from what I understand.

Some interesting UFA's, for s**ts and giggles:
-Denis Gurianov: Not sure if he even has the desire to play in the NHL at this point, but is he capable of turning it around? He's 26, has size, skates well, and plays a nice power-forward game when he's on.
-RHC Oskar Sundqvist: Ok, he's older at 29 years old, but he's 6'3",210lb two-way player with a grinding, physical game.
-LW Danton Heinen: 27 years old, but he's an all-purpose player with excellent skating and some offensive touch.
-RW/LW Noah Gregor: He was rumoured to be coming to Calgary from the Sharks last season. 24 years-old, 6'0",185lbs. Gregor is an Alberta-boy, and his biggest asset might be his speed. He was a very productive player in junior, but he's still trying to put it all together in the big leagues. He's got good offensive instincts, and his defensive game is coming along- I've read a few articles over the course of his career to date that showed advanced stats that suggest that there's much more lurking under the surface offensively. Gregor plays physically, and is not afraid of going to the greasy areas of the ice.
-LHC Jesper Boqvist: Drafted in the second-round of 2017 (36th overall) by Jersey, and has been sqeezed out by all the talent there. He's 24 years old, 6'0" tall, and has smarts and speed. They may have given up on him too quick.

I'm surprised that you visited them all twice considering you think 90% of America is pure trash.
Though I would agree that some places like Chicago and NYC would be a lotter better to visit than to live in.
|
I have lived in both Chicago and New York. Both were amazing cities to live in. Just need to have a job with a large exchange listed company and I'm speaking to being adequately compensated to experience the cities. Connor Bedard is going to have a blast living in Chicago. I would say that it was my most favorite city to live in the US after Tampa and Dallas.

This is exactly why I laugh when people open their mouth and say who would want to live in Chicago. My response to them always is "Have you ever lived there and if you did/you're open to sharing- where did you live and what was your income?"
That usually shuts a lot of people up. Chicago is a world class city with probably the best restaurants in the US. Awesome shopping. It's on the lake so plenty of chances to get on the boats, plenty of bike paths, has the theatre, opera etc. The list keep going. Similar for New York. I just think Chicago is less crowded than New York and that's why I like it more.

Agreed, we have to save the 30+ contracts for long term core players.

Lol Lindholm isn't blocking any young players from taking 1LC minutes

Would definitely be into Gregor although not really at the expense of any of the current projected roster players. I think he’s solid though. Very surprised the Sharks didn’t keep him around.

With debrincat off to Detroit, wonder if we circle back to nyi and see what they’d give up for lindholm. Lots of ntcs on that roster which presents an issue. But wouldn’t hurt to see what they’d give up for lindy, given that they were in the running for debrincat.

Seems redundant for them with Horvat and Barzal

Lindholm can play rw too
Anaheim was in on debrincat as well. And has lots of cap room. Probably worth checking in with them too

Conroy confirms that having Lindholm, Backlund and Hanifin in training camp would not be a huge “deterrent” to him. He says that them being with the team at the end of the season is another matter.
I want to re-listen to get the specific wording because Conroy said a lot.

Rough notes:
- Kylington has been skating for a month already and is excited to come back. No extension talks yet - most of the talk has been about returning.
- Sounded very open to the idea of Wolf moving up and down between NHL and AHL, as long as he plays games. I think he said that Wolf just wants the net - doesn't matter which league. Feels goaltending is very deep and won't make a trade for the sake of making a trade.
- Markstrom sounds very motivated - told Conroy recently that he thinks about last season all the time.
- Has spoken to Lindholm and Backlund recently. I think he said that he hadn't spoken to Hanifin for a few days

Geez. I guess this is good news nowadays? From around town and finally 45 points. And the Team Canada thing unresolved. Seems like a $4M player max.

And as illustrated in the Percentage of Cap thread, you can't be spending that type of money on third line wingers.
