It's the Airdrie of the US, 10 minutes to your parents' place, no matter where they live.

Between being the capital of a large state, and having a huge university, I'd say Columbus is actually the best city in the Midwest. Either it, Green Bay or Minneapolis. Columbus is hardly even comparable to it's Ohio counterparts in Cleveland and Cincinnati. It's a perfectly fine place to raise a family.
Chicago, Detroit, and St. Louis are pretty terrible, though they have good locations.
Indianapolis, Omaha, and Kansas City are fine.
As far as the Midwest goes, I'd say only Detroit, St. Louis and Cleveland are actually trash.

I'm surprised that you visited them all twice considering you think 90% of America is pure trash.
Though I would agree that some places like Chicago and NYC would be a lotter better to visit than to live in.

I guess Denver isn't really trash but it's kind of boring, Minneapolis though is a filthy craphole, not sure why anyone would want to live in Chicago and yeah, NYC is a visit only but Manhattan only, the rest could be used in a walking dead series.
And yes, I think more than 90% of America is trash, it's one big over populated f^&ked country

American society is designed so the rich people never have to experience the bad neighbourhoods. They don’t take public transit or send their kids to ####ty schools. They live in beautiful enclaves with nice houses, pools, green lawns, golf clubs, great schools, parks, restaurants, shopping. It’s not at all surprising that rich people prefer American cities to Canadian ones, because being better for rich people is the whole point of America.

Honestly, I think it's more about the spouses and kids more than the players. The players are on the road so much, and when they aren't on the road, they are preparing for games and doing other team related duties, that they don't get a lot of down time during the season anyway. When they do have down time, it is likely spent at home or maybe on a quick getaway trip somewhere, so the city itself in irrelevant.
I hate to say it, but a lot of hockey players marry Barbie girls that need the pop culture stimulation that only American cities can offer. I think a lot of American born players are in the same boat themselves.

Lol so ignorant
Many US big cities have bad neighborhoods but also have much better neighborhoods than Canada. That’s why players prefer to live in the US.

Yes. All the things you listed are available everywhere. It’s relevant that you could mention nothing that Calgary offers that isn’t generally available.
When you can make millions playing a game, plus get better perks than what Calgary offers, it makes a difference.

Denver proper has gone downhill big time - lots of crime and homeless. Hopefully, the new mayor fixes some of it like he promised. I really don't venture down there as much as I used to do. There are a lot of great surrounding cities that are awesome, and every time I go up in the mountains, it re-enforces the reason why I live here. That and all the micro brews!

Players are people. Some like big markets, some like small. Some like Canada and others like the states. Some like no taxes, some like…no one likes taxes.
The building is an issue, cold you can’t fix.
Lucic being open and speaking his mind, I’ll respect that any day of the week.

This Tweet is being completely takin out of context! If you read the article he also talks about how amazing the city is. “As a family, we really did embrace being Calgarians. We went to the mountains and everything we possibly could to be Calgarians.”

Back to trade speculation with TO.
TO needs to shed a bit of cap, so they need a trade that relieves a bit of cap.
I would see if there is interest to do something like Hanifin/Kadri for Nylander/Brodie, assuming we can negotiate an extension with Nylander prior. Retain $2M on Hanifin.
Afterwards, sign Nylander, trade Brodie and Vladar, re-sign Tanev and Backlund to 2 year deals, re-sign Zadorov to a 4 yr deal, re-sign Lindholm for a long term deal, and run with this:
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Nylander
Mangiapane - Backlund- Coranado
Pelletier - Dube - Coleman
??? - Ruzicka - Duehr
Weegar - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Zadorov - ???
Markstrom
Wolf
Trade off Mangiapane, Backlund, Tanev, Coleman and Markstrom over the next couple years to make space for youth.

Trade (salary retained)
Backlund, Hanifin, Vladar for Nylander
Huberdeau-Lindholm-Nylander
Mangiapane-Kadri-Sharangovich
Coronato-Dube-Pelletier
Duehr-Ruzicka-Coleman
Jones, Schwindt
Andersson-Weegar
Zadorov-Kylington
Tanev-Poirier
Oesterle
Markstrom
Wolf
... use this next season to develop the young players and then trade Lindholm, Tanev, Zadorov, Coleman at the deadline.
Then, go into next off-season with a bunch of picks and prospects. Use some of those to also pick up some quality players that can be part of the core moving forward.

The flames need to get some center prospects with potential or picks to grab one. It's great to say trade Lindholm and Backlund but then our center depth is immediately the worst in the league.
Kadri
Dube
Ruzicka
Rooney
That is...not good. Also Zary is our best center prospect who's probable best case scenario is a 2nd line center.
I think we need to keep Lindholm and trade Hanifin for an up and coming center - or a pick to try get one.

Still interested in Coronato as a centre. He played it at the Worlds and apparently a lot in college as well. To me his skill set seems to work for C.
