Maybe he could have had more success in the next couple of years if he hadn't previously said bad things.
Darryl will now be known as out of touch and unwilling to change and not many people will want to roll the dice on that. Keenan was considered out of touch by some.
Glen G and Jimmy P just didn't cut it as head coaches.

It was a big deal some people just shrugged it off but it was dumb and one of the points made earlier from someone that how he mistreated young players.
Someone said earlier in the year that the players went to the Treliving to tell him to make Sutter play Pelts or send him down it was dumb. In turn Sutter put him and embarrassed him in the media for no reason but to stick it to Treliving.
I wonder if playing him so high up in the lineup was sticking it to Treliving as well. He didn't deserve the minutes he got but he also didn't deserve to be scratched and playing 6 minutes.

Question would be: why do you not want him?
Is it because you perceive it to be an “old Flames club” like Edmonton suffered with? Because I’d argue Connie has been on a development path - are you anti-personal development?

I'm actually glad Huberdeau is publicly standing up for one of this team's young players so quickly while this news is still fresh. Speaks volumes to me about his leadership. Really excited to watch him next year.

I think it's fine to not want Conroy. Filling roles simply because they are on the supposed path of succession is not always the best way to do things. If there is a better candidate out there then you hire that person. And it was mentioned, Conroy has been involved at a fairly high level with this team for a while, and the results on the ice are not exactly earth shattering, so I am not entirely convinced that he is the right one for the job either.

I love Conroy but how attached is he to this team and and players that he wont look at it with a fresh view?
Getting a fresh perspective is important with the GM and Coach and they need to be aligned.
It could very well be Conroy but they need interview people outside the organization, even if you don't hire those guys you learn a lot about your team and how they are viewed outside the organization.

I think you could see that with Huby on the ice and on the bench too.
I laugh at the people who simplify this decision (to fire Sutter) down to “you can’t give the players the power!”
Coaches job is to maximize the players potential and extract maximum success. Darryl blew this past season. He was atrocious. This is keeping the Head Coaching position accountable for their results. Also, how can you ignore the many (rumoured) complaints from a lot of players?

I think if you were anti-Treliving then the natural response would be to be anti-Conroy.
They were working closely together the entire time...so I could see why people would be hesitant.

Your production went down in half because of the style the coach wanted to play?
Maybe you suck also. Sad!!!

two things can be true. he definitely did not mesh with Sutter, and I'm sure if asked he would say openly that he struggled personally as well

Shooting shots from the half boards isn't proven success in the playoffs.
The best style to win with in the playoffs is the best style that fits your roster its not a one style fits all and that is the why Sutter is out of a job today.
Colorado was a rush team and won, you didn't see the coaches try to get them to grind it along the walls.
Its also a heavy special teams league now as well, you need to score on the powerplay.
This team wasn't constructed to win 2-1 hockey games, and not many teams are now.

Helps if you actually get there first. And last year they got embarrassed by Edmonton.
