I'd make Weegar captain if Backs is gone. He's here for the next 8 years, and he seems to be a pretty respected guy.

Not much he can say to excuse giving up on his team. It’s totally inexcusable IMO.

Sutter wouldn't let Tkachuk wear flip-flops. Even when on the road in California/Florida and skittles weren't allowed on flights either.

No, he wanted watermelon flavoured mouth guards and they just told him to wear it properly. That is it. He wasn't sticking around.

Interesting perspective, instant pressure on the players and whoever is coming in next year. Hopefully we have a big bounce back.

I think it is poor results, not poor effort
He played the style and position Darryl wanted and it didn’t maximize the value realized from his skill set

You thinking of Kadri?
Huberdeau put in the work and just looked bad doing it. Kadri was the one with a poor effort.

The Flames must have the record for Head coaches not getting another HC job after they leave.
Jim Playfair
Mike Keenan
Brent Sutter
Bob Hartley
Glen Gulutazan
Bill Peters
Darryl Sutter (Potentially)

Question for those who watch the Wranglers, but do they generally play the same style as the Flames? I remember Treliving saying before that they wanted consistency of styles between the farm and NHL team so that players were learning the same systems. I am not sure if that actually stuck or not.

He had poor execution all season but the effort was there IMO.
I do hope he does take away some of what Sutter was coaching though. The last 25 games he was pretty good, was producing at 5v5 and was more reliable defensively than any point in career prior.
They had started to figure it out at 5v5 IMO...PP remained a whole other issue.

Hes just saying he didnt have much confidence under him and the style of play didnt fit his game. I have no doubt with more leash to be creative Huberdeau can at least get back up to pt/gm while still being reliable defensively.

I could see Gulutzan getting another HC job at some point here.
The Oilers stars love him and rave about him coaching the PP. Sure it's easy to have McDavid and Draistail but somebody will give him another look eventually IMO.

Brent Sutter preferred to just go back to Red Deer and run his WHL team. Bob 'artley really could be a head coach in the NHL still but he is known as a bully and that reputation may have on the list of good coaches to stay away from. Peters... who knows? Maybe he could have had more success in the next couple of years if he hadn't previously said bad things.
Darryl will now be known as out of touch and unwilling to change and not many people will want to roll the dice on that. Keenan was considered out of touch by some.
Glen G and Jimmy P just didn't cut it as head coaches.

Oilers stars love him because he let them do whatever they want, and also, isn't all players generally love the assistants? I think if someone offer him a 3 years contract as HC, he'd get fired within that contract. GG just not a head coach material, some coaches are just good AC and not HC.

I could see it too. He is still relatively young. I am actually surprised that Playfair never got another look yet. I thought the players here acted like brats and didn't really give him a chance.
To be fair, we don't know how many of these guys actually go chasing other HC jobs. Keenan was retiring at that point anyway (probably), but he had longevity.
I get the sense that Brent Sutter just didn't want it anymore. He had a lot of other things going on in his personal businesses.
Hartley was kicking it in Europe for a while before he came back because of his close personal relationship with Feaster. I honestly don't think he was chasing NHL jobs at that point, and I have my doubts he was looking too hard after either. Although there were rumours that the Habs were looking at him before.
Peters needs a big asterisk. I don't even think he is eligible to be hired in the NHL at the moment.

Pierre saying its not a slam dunk for Conroy as GM.
Pierre is probably the most credible insider especially with the Flames unlike some basement bloggers who seemed to have it in for the team.
