My guess is it’s Pascal as GM and Love as coach

Loved Darryl in 2004. However, there's clearly been a transition to more skilled and faster hockey. You can't win with a dogmatic system of hard work that's totally reliant on no one making a mistake.

Obviously goaltending was an issue, but many of the goals that Markstrom let in were the result of really good chances against us too. Expecting Markstrom to bail out odd man rushes created by the fact that the d-men can't play their game, and let a puck totally by them, isn't fair either.

Easily. Jack Adams = team performing well above expectations.

The next year they regress to previous expectations or a little worse, but expectations are now much higher. Original expectations were probably reasonable.

I think it’s along the lines of what Rhett was saying

He said he saw them earlier in the year, how the team was responding, and said Sutter was pushing too hard. He also said that winning fixes a lot

We know Sutter likes to have a culture where people are generally on edge, in a bit of fear

When they were winning, you likely see him pushing a few buttons, trying to push what he feels are the right buttons at the right time

When they were not winning, like this year, and his response is to push too many buttons, he risks pushing the team away rather than pushing them forward

Not only that, the team outplayed other teams but lost close games on mistakes. No way he was supportive of those players when they messed up.

It’s a negative feedback loop

That’s how you could go from Jack Adams to fired

I'd be pretty unimpressed if they picked the wrong guy based on what they think the fan base wants or name recognition to the team's past.

I think in pretty much any staffing decision (GM, coach, player) the Flames are going to get the 4th or 5th best guy available when compared to their ranking. Best to go inside and develop their own if guy #4 isn't up to what you think you already have.

If Conroy or Pascal are the best based on what Maloney is hearing and has witnessed in the war room over the years, then hire them.

Nah, that was just a story. The only quote I've seen suggesting this was from Ruzicka, and he wasn't even around when they extended him before. Not sure why he'd even know that.
