I view it as a sign that the exit interviews possibly didn't send the anti-Sutter message people think it sent. It possibly sent a message favorable to Sutter which might explain why Huby and Kadri were collegial to Sutter at the garbage day, why Maloney is working next to Sutter, why Tre is gone and why Walsh (or someone else with an axe to grind) keeps whispering in Dregars and Saravellis ear.

Read it again. Gilbertson did not say they were there together.

For me, I feel like enough time has passed for Maloney to make a decision, if it were him making the decision. Same goes for the conspiracy folks here who believe that Edwards is making the final call - if he chose Sutter over Tre, it would have been announced by now. Which leads to the last remaining scenario that Flames management has decided that they will leave it up to the incoming GM to make that call.

What’s to announce? Sutter is under contract as a coach.

Now we are talking. Instant credibility. And MH has to be near the top of anyone's list of those who have a knack for finding talented players.

If the weather in May becomes a factor then nothing else matters because the Flames are playing in May.
The other factor that comes into play is overall travel. Flames don't have it the worst (Edmonton, Vancouver, Seattle) but their travel is almost the worst in the NHL. Players on teams in New Jersey, New York, Phialdelphia, etc. are sleeping in their own bed twice as many nights each season.

Coincidentally, another guy who walked away from his last management position.

I thought he walked away essentially because he lost out to Dubas for the GM job. I might remember wrong though.

I cannot believe Sutter is still employed by this team.
I may get roasted for saying this, but Bill Peters got fired for less. It's so obvious that Sutter has made a completely toxic workplace and anyone responsible for letting it continue into next season is going to be just as culpable.
Do the right thing Flames (Edwards/Maloney).

You're correct, him and Dubas were Co-AGM's and when Lou left they promoted Dubas over Hunter so he agreed to terminate his contract.

I want Sutter gone as much as anyone but in no way is what he’s doing more egregious as what Peters did to Akim Aliu. Sutter is a lot of things but I don’t think there is evidence of him being that out of bounds. I do think from a team perspective he’s created a toxic environment especially with the youth in the team and the fact that he still has yet to name a captain shows that he has never believed in the leadership vets of the team. After watching Mitch Love postgame I really am hoping the Flames take a chance on him and graduate some of the Wrangler players at the same time.

Really agree with this take. I’m all for Mitch getting the coaching job. Obviously he can work with young players. To my mind the infusion of some youth and a new coach could drastically change the complexion of the team.

Hunter deserve a lot of credit for where the Leafs are today (some will take this opportunity to take shots at their lack of playoff success but as far as roster construction goes, they’re good).
Leafs management team had backing from ownership when Hunter was around to rebuild. I would be pleasantly surprised if Edwards would allow that, but there’s not much reason to think he will.

It truly is amazing that he hasn't been removed. What good has come of this organization since Sutter returned?
We had two elite level talents up and leave despite just winning the division
We had our longest tenured and most loyal player in Backlund request a trade
We had our gm of nine years outright walk away from the organization despite receiving multiple contract offers from ownership to stay
We had Rasmus Andersson state that this was the most frustrating year of his career (with the exception of the covid year)
We had our new offseason acquisitions and big dollar investments visually dissatisfied with their treatment and usage
We had an agent publicly ridicule and mock the coach.
We now have this report that multiple players have no interest in returning at all if Sutter is behind the bench to begin next season.
There is far, far to much smoke here. You can say that there is no direct link to Sutter being the main cause for these developments, but I don't think it takes a genius to connect the dots.. Sutter has created a work environment that nobody wants to be apart of. The solution to me seems quite apparent, but a ton of damage has already been done.

Toronto never did a big rebuild though, as in committing to being bad via the tank. They just were bad naturally, outside maybe the Matthews draft. Hell, the Nylander draft they picked after Calgary. They never loaded up on picks, and they retained their "stars" like Kessell, Phanuef, Kadri and Gardiner all the way through.
