I'm curious to know who these players are. My guess is that the list is two players long.

Lindholm’s words at his end of year press conference was ‘I have one more year left and we will see what happens’ not ‘I’m not coming back’. Sounds like to me he intends to finish his contract, which I’m sure his agent and the NHLPA would advise.
Ask yourself this; how bad would your boss have to be for you to walk away from millions of dollars?

If it's Lindholm, a player who most teams in the league would be eager to sign to an extension this summer, it would make sense for him to demand* a trade (but really all he needs to say is he is absolutely not re-signing, which is demanding a trade without demanding a trade).
All the Flames could really do is threaten to trade him to a contender that wouldn't have room to extend him, but I suspect there are a lot of good teams that would pay more with the intention of re-signing.

Well, Elias Lindholm doesn't want to be here anymore. Mikael Backlund, a player who has asked for a trade before, is also likely one of these players - though his lack of desire to be here seems more directly tied to lack of team success (which Sutter contributes to).
I don't think gearing this all towards Huberdeau and Kadri (assuming that's who you were pointing towards) is fair. They were pretty open and reflective on this past season. They're also players who are coming from better organizations than ours. So if they come in and wonder just what in the !@#$ is going on around here...probably wise to pay attention to that. Perhaps this organization is the problem.

Not that I believe the reports because Dreger is unreliable and the king of making statements like this that aren't really definitive and just "thinks he is hearing" but if this is the case that is crazy.
I see most people are using this to beat Sutter with but to me it shines a much more negative light on the players. Sutter isn't a bad coach, let alone one of the worst in the league or a guy that players should be quitting over. If the team picks these weak, mediocre players over a quality coach that is a terrible sign for the team going forward.
While i don't like the idea of a GM having no choice over the head coach and so would be fine moving on from Sutter based on that, he wasn't the problem last year the lack of talent and players were so to let them off the hook and back a mediocre squad is a terrible way to run the team.

The team is trending downwards, the coach is difficult to play for, the arena is the oldest in the league, the city isn't great, the prospect pool is one of the worst in the league. Seriously would it be surprising guys want out? The only thing that will ever attract players here is ties to the area, an elite team with cup potential, or a huge overpayment in cash.

My guess it is a longer list. There were just too many players that did not look happy all season long. You can count the players that appeared happy and performed well on one hand. I wonder how many players could develop "personal issues" or "nagging injuries" that saw them sit out until the coach was fired or they were traded?

They didn’t look happy?- losing close games does that to a player, and they lost a ton of them…

There are some fans on Twitter upset about this. But I don’t think it means much. Chris was there hyping up the crowd. Brett is the Wranglers captain

Even during wins this team didn't look happy. It was a long year and there is a reason for the smoke that surrounds the team. This could be a summer even more tumultuous than last one.

I'd wager the list of players that won't come back even if under contract is zero. Unless it includes Kylington.

Was Sutter actually there to scout, or was he just watching?

Lower level rumblings?
Maybe below the cockles,
Maybe in the sub cockle area,
Maybe in the liver, maybe in the kidneys,
Maybe even in the colon, we don't know.

I looked at the comments. I think it's more that the commenters didn't like that Maloney is GM and Sutter is coach - period.

This is my take too...and I'm not sure it even just stops at players.
I've heard some things this week that not only did a lot of the players hate coming to play for Sutter...but even some of his other coaches and hockey personal had thought he crossed the line this year and weren't sure they really wanted to work with him anymore.
There is a lot of smoke around Sutter and the atmosphere around the Flames this year because based on what I'm hearing it was actually that bad and just a terrible place to work.

Sutter watching the Wranglers game last night isn’t a great sign for anyone who thinks he is moving on. Yes, his son plays. But he was with Maloney. So unless he’s stepping into an advisory role …..

Because he is viewing all of these prospects and wondering which talented scoring winger he plans to stick on the 4th line and which 4th line plug he is going to give 15 minutes a night of course.
