Huberdeau looked great yesterday as well. Should have had a pair of assists.

He also rushed the puck up ice and you could see Tampa collapsed when he came at them with speed so that part he has to his game it just hasn't been flashed as much.

I expected the worst yesterday and got the complete opposite. This team, this franchise, never fails to confuse.

Most of the guys who end up in Europe put those numbers up in their mid 20’s. The guys recently 21 or under who put up those type of totals include:

John Peturka - on a 35 point pace in his rookie year in the NHL at the age of 21.

Jonathan Berggren - on a 44 point pace as a 22 year old rookie in the NHL

Jack Quinn - on a 41 point pace as a 21 year old rookie in the NHL

Matias Macelli - on a 60 point pace as a 22 year old rookie in the NHL.

There are busts like Tyler Benson, but for the most part if you put those type of numbers up at the AHL level you end up being productive at the NHL level. The guys who end up in Europe are the guys who are in their mid 20’s.

He has nobody to flash that part of his game to play with. My recollection of him in Florida was hitting the zone with speed, playing with two other fast forwards and making amazing passes east/west. That is the combo for that guy.

Fair point, and my wording should have probably been "promising, but not a sure thing" instead of "middling". The rest of my point is the same, regardless. I hope this was a bumbled attempt by Sutter to be snarky with a reporter he doesn't like, and trying to keep the expectations tempered for a young guy just getting his start and nothing more.

Yikes some serious generalizations in that response.

Almost as needlessly personal as the person you're replying to.

I'm in oil and gas, and not the prick you describe. Some pretty noble police and fire fighters out there. There are aholes in every profession.

That's an interesting take.

That wasn't the point Matt was trying to make. I work in O&G too.

He clarified his post well here: https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpo...&postcount=237

I never understand the Francis hate. I wonder if some people even formed their own opinion on him or just jumped on the hate bandwagon cause its the popular thing to do around here. Like the guy saying Francis would keep players from signing here and the post gets a bunch of likes. Like are you kidding me? LOL thats up there for one of the dumbest things Ive read on here. There is zero chance any player or propsect would do that.

Guess some people just want fluff pieces and the Derek Wills kind of stuff. I mean I dont agree with everything Francis says but least hes not afraid to call stuff out. Hes right more than hes wrong and people just hate to admit it.

That's true.

If the coach gives that line a,solid winger I think they take off.

I think the generational gap thing is true with Sutter and what he belives. His church reference last year never got flak either trying to paint Alberta with one brush.

The world is different and people need to adapt especially leaders. He has millennial kids so he might be able to form relationships with them a bit easier but it's still hit or miss but I think with 2000 kids coming into the league he will have hard time with the new batch of kids.

We saw it with Vali his play was terrible but we don't know what was said behind closed doors etc and he comes out and says he needed some positive reinforcement.

You can call someone out but embarrassing people in the public usually doesn't work anymore. Telling your players to put on dresses may have worked in 2004 but it's 2023 now you need to change.

Positive reinforcement got Valamaki all the way to fringe NHLer on the worst team in the league!

Conroy and Iginla talked about it was a game in Montreal in 2003 I believe. I'll have to dig up the quote.
